Bent Wheels on Certified Pre-Owned VW... Terrible! All seemed to be in good operating condition under normal driving circumstances around town and at clear highway speed, aside from a slight rocking I would feel from time to time. For just over a month of occasional driving, I chalked this feeling up to a stiff sporty suspension or some way I must have been driving incorrectly at lower speeds causing the transmission to introduce this rocking vibration feeling. As I began to commute in highway traffic more often, I realized this rocking feeling would only occur during low speeds around 15 to 40 km/h. Although the rocking is not tremendously pronounced, it feels like I am riding a horse as I sit in traffic on the way to work each morning, and this is a very unsettling feeling in a vehicle that has been critically-acclaimed for its superb balance on the road. Upon the discovery that there was something wrong with its balance, I brought the car into my usual family master mechanic and had him search for the source of this rocking issue and give the underbody of the car a look over for any potential hazards while the oil was changed. At first, I took him for a ride along and could not replicate the rocking of the vehicle on the road during our short drive around the block. We returned to the shop and the car went up onto the lift. After less than a minute of inspecting the underside of the car, my mechanic was shocked to discover that my certified used VW had passed the safety from the dealership with 3 bent wheels! I told him when I was looking at the car before purchasing, I noticed surface damage to the outside of the wheels and the Sales Manager (Alex Botea) offered to have the wheels refinished as part of the deal. I didn't give it another thought and the outside of the rims looked good when I picked up the car expecting the damage to be limited to the "cosmetic resurfacing" they had done. After all I thought, I was buying a premium certified VW from a reputable VW dealer and I had no reason to believe otherwise, right? Wrong. After seeing the bent portion of the 3 wheels while the car was up on the hoist at my local mechanic, I contacted Humberview Volkswagen to make an appointment to bring the car in. While the car was up on the hoist at the dealership, I pointed to the bent wheels demanding an explanation as to why and how this vehicle had passed safety certification with wheels in this condition. At first, both the Sales Manager and the certifying VW Technician meekly told me that the wheels were likely in good enough condition to pass safety in their current state, and that they would just require more weight on the bent wheels to correct the rocking feeling I experience while sitting in highway traffic during my daily commute (are you kidding me??). After further prying into this matter, the technician who originally certified the vehicle went to search for specifications from VW that would tell him how bent the wheels could be in order to pass safety. When he returned he still seemed unsure of whether the rims on my car would have passed his safety certification. In disbelief of this response, I pointed out the severity of the deformed wheels once again and wondered how they could possibly be straight enough to pass a vehicle safety certification. Only then, after all my complaints about the bent rims and close to 20 minutes of wondering whether they would allow the vehicle to be safety certified in this condition, did the technician tell me they would not likely pass based on the 96 page Ontario safety standard document stating that the wheels would fail if bent in any way. I can’t believe it took him this long to conclude that the wheels would not allow the vehicle to pass safety certification, and wonder if he even referred to that specific section of the Passenger/Light-Duty Vehicle Inspection Standard document when safety certifying the vehicle at the time of purchase. He sure didn’t seem to be well-versed in the wheel inspection section of that document when he was unsure of pass/fail criteria for wheels at the beginning of our conversation during my visit to the dealership. To add insult to injury, the Sales Manager and VW Technician both alluded to the fact that a safety certification only lasts 36 days, and that I am out of luck when it comes to having the rims replaced on a vehicle that was certified and delivered on April 26th. The technician then offered to add missing weights and rebalance my wheels and tires to compensate for any imbalance on the road due to the bent wheels, but any amount of weight will not un-bend a bent wheel, so I passed on the 45 minute wait time for the rebalancing, and returned to work to avoid wasting even more time than had already been spent dealing with the dreadful post-purchase service at this dealership. Now I am driving around in a vehicle that should not have been safety certified in the first place, wondering how long it will be before my bent wheels begin to affect other components on the vehicle. Through all of this, the Sales Manager denied anybody knowing anything about these bent wheels and refused to replace them. Are you kidding me again?? How many VW professionals need to look at rims along the way and “not see” they are bent (the certifying dealership technician, the sales manager, the rim repair staff working to refinish the scratched rims)... I gave them the opportunity to make things right and earn some of my trust back when the obvious issue was pointed out to them, but they disappointed and did not take the opportunity. I'm still hoping when they see the sequence of events laid out here that they reach out and replace these bent wheels, but I'm certainly not holding my breath, as the Sales Manager continuously stated that there was absolutely nothing he could do during my dealership visit yesterday. Perhaps someone above him in the dealership hierarchy can right this wrong. This is the 3rd VW my family has owned, and it has been the worst buying experience of all by far. I fully expect to have to make VW Canada my next stop. I wish I could have given something less than 1 star on this rating scale as I don't want to contribute to a positive rating in any way. Buyers of certified used cars... beware here. More

Great service I decided to try Humberview after getting frustrated with the dealer where I bought my 2011 Golf. The first test was when I had a burned out taillight and was about to head out on a trip so it needed to be replaced right away. When I went in to buy the bulb, I asked the service advisor how to change it since it wasn't an obvious fix. He went out to the parking lot and did it for me... no charge. Since then I've been taking my car there for regular service and have been pleased with the professionalism and service I've received. Wouldn't hesitate to buy a new car and get service there. More
Will never buy from a dealership again Bought the car 78,000 kilometers paid cash they wanted me to pay $11,000 for a warranty that would only last a little bit because the warranty package Bought the car 78,000 kilometers paid cash they wanted me to pay $11,000 for a warranty that would only last a little bit because the warranty package only covered 120,000k I asked about a couple noises that the car made was told all of the cars made that sound being the first turbo car I've owned I didn't know any better... long story short there wasn't even a year warranty given like I was told the day I picked up the car now I'm at a hundred and thirty thousand kilometers only on the car for 11 months and I have to do a complete engine rebuild... wheel bearings wore out at 95000k... long story short worst experience I've ever had. Being that this is a recession and everything else had to come out of my pocket left in hardcore debt.... don't make the same mistake I did. More
