Manager would not let us buy the new car we wanted because we would not do a trade in. The sales person was excellent. I would say they need a manager who understands business. I would advise everyone to shop elsewhere, Subaru cars are great but the management here is not. More
I bought my first Subaru here back in 2018, and came back to possibly do a trade in. My experience with sales a few weeks ago was downright horrible this time. I had a car I was looking to trade - and ou to possibly do a trade in. My experience with sales a few weeks ago was downright horrible this time. I had a car I was looking to trade - and outside of one salesman starting the process of grabbing the VIN, no one looked at my car. At all. I was given a lowball trade offer, which was significantly lower than what the trade value ranges were from KBB and CBB. My car is in good condition with low mileage. When I even tried to haggle on the value here, I was given xyz reasons as to why they couldn't go higher and said resale value is about $23000 and they have to make a profit too. Another dealer was shocked at what I was quoted and they offered me $6k more than what I was offered here. The bi weekly payment schedule they showed me was significantly higher than what was estimated online - even when I factored in different interest rates, what's left on my current loan and the amount that would be left for a down payment. The numbers didn't add up. When we did the math at home, I would have ended up paying $10k+ over the base purchase price which made absolutely no sense. Sales was PUSHY. Whenever we tried to leave, he would leave his office to go talk to the manager to get a better deal. This happened about 3 times. When we said again we had to leave to go think about it further, we were greeted by the manager to be further pushed into a "better" deal which goes to show they had A LOT of wiggle room. They also kept pushing these packages which were $2500 and $1000. I said I didn't want any of it because I can get these things cheaper elsewhere, but then met with "this package is mandatory, all vehicles that come here have to have it" When I thought we reached a good deal, I decided to sign a finance application only after confirming that the deposit was refundable if we decided to not go forward with things at a later date, to which we were told yes, it is refundable. My car keys weren't given back to me until we had signed paperwork. They weren't even in the same room as us, which really bothered me. So even if I wanted to leave I had no clue where my keys were being kept. After going home, thinking about things and running the numbers trying to make sense of things, I decided to email the salesman and say we changed our minds and that we would like a refund. Called him later that evening to ask for the refund and were met with a 15 minute conversation of him trying to again give an even better deal after calling out the insanely high interest rate and the amount we'd be paying. When we kept saying no, it turned into "oh I'll have to see if I can give a refund, I'll call you tomorrow" we were never called. Showed up to the dealership, asked for the refund and we were told they need a manager to approve it. We were asked to wait in the waiting area. While we waited, we overheard a different salesman being rather pushy with a couple about buying, they were asking a lot of valid questions but seemed like they were getting the run around. Finally a manager came up to us and we were again met with "is it about the money? We can give a better deal". We took the refund. Won't be returning to sales after this experience. More
I would not recommend service at Subaru City. I bought my vehicle from the dealership in 2011. Immediately after the purchase my check engine light came on, so I brought it back, for what I belie I bought my vehicle from the dealership in 2011. Immediately after the purchase my check engine light came on, so I brought it back, for what I believe would be a no cost fix for selling me a car with immediate issues. This was not the case after paying some money to have the issue "resolved" the same check engine light came on. I refused to pay any more money to the service department and they attempted to fix the issue again, this time at no cost. The issue was not resolved with the problem they say being the after market intake installed. They sold me the vehicle with this part installed and did not tell me this would cause my car to display a check engine light and my cruise control will not work in this state. I was recommended by a shop employee at Subaru city to buy a OBD 2 code reader and clear the code myself when it pops up. Well it pops up every time I drive the vehicles after clearing it. This issue was never resolved. The second bad interaction I had with the dealership was with my exhaust and brakes. Their supply chain does not support older vehicles in a appropriate time. It was two months for an exhaust part to arrive and they refused to fly in parts that are "too heavy" to support their shop, for example the brake rotors. The repairs were done well but the time it took for a Subaru specific shop was bad. The final interaction I had to which I will never return started with an oil leak. After spending 4500$ my car continues to leak oil(3000$ on labor and 1500 on parts). I assumed being a Subaru shop a oil leak would have been manageable. I was assured by the service manager that they would "take care of me" and "make things right" I was called after for another 1600$ repair which could fix the problem with no guarantees. Do not give your money to this service department. They will fix your car but at a cost, a steep cost. From my perspective they fixed many things on my car which may or may not needed to be repaired for the issue to be resolved, and held no accountability when the problem was never resolved. More

Stay away from Subaru City Went in Saturday and they advised they had 2 x2023 Sport that had cancelled orders and were available and landing this week. Said they had the VIN, pricing etc etc. Made the d advised they had 2 x2023 Sport that had cancelled orders and were available and landing this week. Said they had the VIN, pricing etc etc. Made the deal for price that day and deposit. (Shady enough start that they put some armour package on all cars and demand the client pays the $2500) My husband Went tonight to sign papers etc. -Finance monthly was about $50 more than it should be -they tried to say they didn’t know if we would be eligible for loyalty rate (we own another Subaru) -then they tried pushing a demo on us, relentlessly -then they said they weren’t sure if it was arriving this week or next -then tried to say we had to trade our 22 forester in order to make a deal (called them on that one real quick) -then said they didn’t know when it would be in as they didn’t even have a VIN yet for it Needless to say he grabbed our deposit and ran out the door Shady. Shady. Shady! If I could give zero stars, I would. More
We brought in our subaru for a re-program of the ECM to improve battery life. Even though we told service that the battery was 10 days old and had started the vehicle successfully that morning, his tech st improve battery life. Even though we told service that the battery was 10 days old and had started the vehicle successfully that morning, his tech still performed a battery test. When we got the invoice, they wrote that the battery needed replacement. We demanded test results. They provided test results for the wrong battery, so we thought. Turns out they admitted that the tech did not enter the correct information for the CCA rating. Results came out as zero's across the board, which likely indicates that the test either wasn't done by a competent tech, or wasn't performed on our battery. Service tech seemed to have very limited technical knowledge to understand that the results were skewed/impossible for the battery in the vehicle referenced in our invoice. This is not the first time we have bad service at this dealership. It is unfortunate that certain dealerships give the Subaru brand a bad reputation. The conclusion we have drawn was that they write on your invoice that the battery needs replacement in hopes that you don't ask questions, and pay them blindly. Will be the last time we go there. My nephew bought his 1st car at Subaru City. Although it was a used car, and of a reasonably low cost, we received the utmost of respect and customer service. our sales rep, Emil was awesome to Although it was a used car, and of a reasonably low cost, we received the utmost of respect and customer service. our sales rep, Emil was awesome to work with! And I must say The financial agent, Paula, went above and then beyond what was expected of her. She didn't have to, but she advised my nephew on the who, whys and particulars of insurance coverage. Simply put.... She was AWESOME !! A very good buying experience !! Thank-You Paula & Emil. More
Back in late July 2022 I order a 2023 cross trek - was told 4 to 6 months. Was reminded several times by text by the salesman that "it was coming". I get a call today (December 8th - 5 month mark) saying told 4 to 6 months. Was reminded several times by text by the salesman that "it was coming". I get a call today (December 8th - 5 month mark) saying that "we have to put my car on order again" I'm like xxx? we ordered it in July!! He says "oh they have no more 2023 left so we have to order you in a new 2024 - will take another 2 to 3 months!" I'm flabbegasted! Now you're trying to sell me a 2024 and I have to wait another 3 months!! Also did the price go up on me??? "oh well that's the market today, blah, blah," I said "ya right - you probably just sold my 2023 car from under me for a higher price" - Of course full denial and they never would do such a thing. Honestly, I know a lot of dealerships are playing this game right now with people - I'm hearing it is happening all over . No integrity and no ethics. I've always loved Subaru's but not interested in buying anything from the Subaru dealerships in Edmonton - (both dealerships are owned by the same person ). Decided to hang on to my old car then check the market out in a years time - but it definitely will not be a Subaru More
