Buying a Subaru? Don't waste your time here I purchased my first Outback in 2006 - great car. Because it was closest, my first stop attempt to purchase was at Ogilvie Subaru. It was a long wait I purchased my first Outback in 2006 - great car. Because it was closest, my first stop attempt to purchase was at Ogilvie Subaru. It was a long wait to get any attention from the lone salesman on the floor. The model I was interested in was not available to look at. Asked for a call when one came in. Never heard back. Ended up going across town to the other dealer two months later and purchased one off the lot. Purchased my second Outback this week. Again my first stop was Ogilvie Subaru. My initial visit was to get a ballpark estimate of price and trade-in value. The numbers I was given looked real good. Went back to days later to do the deal and suddenly my 2006 Outback was worth $4500 instead of $10,500. Salesman said he would try to get more but never got back to me. Again I went across town to the other dealer and purchased my Outback off the lot. Combined trade-in and dealer discounts got me a deal close to that suggested by Ogilvie but not delivered. Bottom line. These guys aren't really interested in selling cars so don't waste your time. More

The difference in the service departments is visually apparent and the differences are night and day, right from the appearance of the desks (there is no distinguishing between the cashier and the service reception desks), the lack of name tags (and without introducing who he was I had no idea his name until later). As I new there was a repair to be done I was still waiting for a call 3 hrs later and called myself. The first service person answered and was helpful with my questions, highlighting what was required to be done. When I then spoke to my advisor, I wasn't told of all the issues, and then because they had to order a part in I asked to let me know of an Estimate on when I would be picking up as I was booked in until 4pm. After realizing I wasn't told of a few of the other issues needing repair i then had to call back, and had to leave a message which was never returned. At 4pm I had to call again to see when I could pick up my vehicle, I was told another 30 min...the only thing was I had driven my the dealership and saw my vehicle in there parking lot, right where it was when I returned to pick it up. On pick-up a different advisor explained the issues that had been worked on, and this was fine. My vehicle was left unlocked in the parking lot. At Otto's (and at other dealerships) they would often power wash the vehicle as a nice touch, not so much here. Despite the distance to drive across town to the other dealership I think the service and professionalism is worth it. More
Brought our Subaru Forester, that we originally bought at this location, for the first service and I was really disappointed: I had to prove an agreed service price that I was promised by the service mana this location, for the first service and I was really disappointed: I had to prove an agreed service price that I was promised by the service manager, who was fired recently...; Instead of 2 hours we were waiting for 4 hours till service was done. Regardless the car was sitting in the parking lot for 20 minutes after the service was done, the front desk representative did not rush for calling us even we were only the customers at that time. I was charged twice for the labor that was already included into the service package; The dirty stains were left on the upholstery of the car. The Subaru survey was completed and I have never heard back from Ogilvie Motors. Poor after sales service!!! More
Very disappointed with Subaru. My wife and I are about Very disappointed with Subaru. My wife and I are about trade in our Ford and purchase something new. We are considering Ford escape 2014 and subaru Very disappointed with Subaru. My wife and I are about trade in our Ford and purchase something new. We are considering Ford escape 2014 and subaru outback 2014. I always loved subaru based on the quality and durability of the cars and tried to convince my wife to give them a shot because she is not fond of the car look. After a volleyball game close by Ogilvie, we decided to drop by the dealership with our ford and get a test drive, quote on the outback and estimate on our trade in. We walked in the store and were greeted by an older salesman. I forgot his name so this is the description that will have to do. he gave us a look of almost disdain and I quickly explained that we were dressed in sports clothes because we decided to drop off after volleyball. I also explain that we live in Kanata and opted to come hre instead of the closer otto subaru based on reviews. he said ok and helped us. We looked at the car and discussed features and other clients walked in and asked for him. he had already started putting our desired specs in the system by that point and had told us he would give our car to their trade in guy for estimate and would give us a test drive meanwhile. But when the other clients walked in, he came and asked us if we could come back later. I reiterated that Kanata was far and that we would prefer not having to leave in the middle of our arrangement. he then went to the other clients and advised them that he had already told us he would test drive us and asked them to come back instead.... So he owned up to his side of the bargain and gave us a test drive. During the drive he barely spoke and in fact during the whole time we were there he barely showed any emotions. To put it like my wife did...."if we buy subaru, it wont be because of the sales pitch". So anyways we came back from the test drive and got a quote on our ford. The quote was about $5000 short of the lowest a similar car / mileage sells for on auto trader. The only explanation was that there was about $1000 worth of repairs to put on the car (1 scratch and 1 rear wiper motor to replace). I don't disagree with the repair....I do feel they are lowballing us big time on it though. Still...its a dealership and I didn't expect to get auto trader rates....so i'm willing to look past that and take it for what it is...an estimate. Right after announcing this...and even though we did not show any signs of disappointment or that we lost interest, he just advised us that he would let us go and would email us a quote by end of the day. he had previously took down my email. So just like that we are out. It has been 5 days since and we never got a call or email back. Not impressed at all, I looked up the owner of Ogilvie Subaru and emailed him my concerns. I am hoping its a misunderstanding and they simply misplaced my information. That was 3 days ago and no response. So it seems clear that Ogilvie Subaru really doesn't care much about the customers. They must be making a killing to shrug off serious potential clients. needless to say that I will not be purchasing Subaru at this point. If that is the service received during sale time, imagine the after sale service...ouch. Its sad to say but my favorite car maker will no longer receive any praises from my part. More
Went in for a service that inspected my brakes. Labor was set for 2.5 hours. They suggested i change my rotors and pads. They charged me for an additional hour of labor. I brought my car in at 930am and it w set for 2.5 hours. They suggested i change my rotors and pads. They charged me for an additional hour of labor. I brought my car in at 930am and it was out in the parking lot at 12am. However I paid for 3.5 hours of labor. Poor customer retention policies. More
I just took delivery of my new Legacy 3.6. I almost bought a Forester about 5 years ago, but went with a cheaper car that time, due to budget limits. This time I wanted a more upscale sedan. I remember bought a Forester about 5 years ago, but went with a cheaper car that time, due to budget limits. This time I wanted a more upscale sedan. I remembered the fellow at Ogilvie the last time, and was happy to see that he is still there. Salesmen come and go, but Don is still there. He was and is very knowledgeable about his products and the auto industry in general. He was very helpful, and actually fun to chat with.I got information from him, and left. During a month of 'due dilligance" I drove other cars and also visited 2 other Subaru dealers, one in Ottawa, and one in Montreal. I then went back to Don with serious intent. We did another test drive and got down to price. He is a straight shooter. He knew I was serious and treated me respectfully. His first, upfront price was totally competitive with the quotes I already had. I asked for more, and he was able to sweeten it a touch. He explained about "tight margins" and all that, but He came through, and I bought the car. This guy is great, It was the best car buying experience for me, and I met a lot of different type of salesman styles while shopping around. Way to go Don . You are my sales guy. Thanks Andre More
I came across this site inadvertently, but decided to check the ratings in any event. I was surprised by the report from Automatons and thought I should mention my buying experience. I bought two car check the ratings in any event. I was surprised by the report from Automatons and thought I should mention my buying experience. I bought two cars from Ogilvie, one used and then, some time later, a new one, both through Don. Before buying the new Subaru, I took my time researching which model (Forester or Outback), and over about six months spent many hours in the Ogilvie showroom and on the lot, examining the cars and even making my own measurements where the published specifications didn't provide these. Throughout that time, despite sometimes being there when the showroom was busy, Don always gave me a friendly welcome, and never once challenged what I was doing. When I finally decided on an Outback, Ogilvie was the first choice, in large part because of the welcome and support I received during that research period. In regard to price, by that time I had an amount in mind, and was pleased when Don presented the dealership’s proposal. On delivery, Don took the time to explain all the controls and gauges and many other features of the new Subaru. I left the dealership feeling confident. Overall, my experiences have been very satisfactory, and I don’t hesitate to recommend Don at Ogilvie Subaru. More
Following a very unpleasant experience encountered by my sister (who is also a Subaru owner) at the Subaru Outaouais dealership which I definitely would not recommend for their sloppy work that could have c sister (who is also a Subaru owner) at the Subaru Outaouais dealership which I definitely would not recommend for their sloppy work that could have caused a fatal accident after losing a wheel while driving on the 416 at 100kms/h & their subsequent inability to recognize their responsibility (since their mechanic had not tightened the wheel nuts), we chose to deal with Ogilvie Motors on Ogilvie Rd. After recently purchasing a 2008 Subaru Outback, I contacted Mr. Rick Giles, a most amiable & courteous Service manager. We exchanged emails while I was on holidays in Mexico & Mr. Giles responded quickly & efficiently inviting me to contact them on my return. I did so in the morning of Sept. 11th & they gave me a same day appointment at 3:00pm. I was there on time, was greeted by Mr. Jason Moyes who updated my file, got the paper work done & had the car inside in no time, since there was a recall that needed to be taken care of. Less than an hour later, the car was ready & off I went. Courteous, efficient, expedient. What more can you ask for? Am I happy? you bet I am. Will I go back? Unqualified "Yes". More
Today was my second trip to this dealership. I've been researching/contemplating getting a Subaru for almost two years and now with a baby in the family, it is time to buy the car. My wife and I deci been researching/contemplating getting a Subaru for almost two years and now with a baby in the family, it is time to buy the car. My wife and I decided on the Outback 2.5i Limited. I had test driven before and since the car will be hers and my folks were in town to watch the baby for a bit, we decided to make a visit to Ogilvie for a test drive for my wife, and to see what they had to offer. The test drive was fine and Don was real knowledgable about cars. Everything was going okay, until we pulled back into the lot. At that point, Don became real distracted by a customer who (I think) he had sold a car to recently, who had come to either pick up her car, or for service. Don saw a colleague of his walking this previous customer of Don's through the lot to her car and then at that point, we became persona non grata. He made us stop the car so he could converse with her and reassure her that he'd be right with her (thanks Don, because it's so easy to find time to test drive a car with a 2 month old). We wanted to check to see how our stroller would fit into the trunk of the Outback, as the stroller is large and takes up most of the trunk in our current car. Begrudgingly, Don allowed it, but not without warning us to not scratch up the bumper getting it in, as he had "a paraplegic person test out a car before and she scratched up the whole bumper trying to get her wheelchair in" (admittedly this wasn't the exact quote but it was more or less like this). Then came time to sit down and talk about what they had in a 2013, the model year we've been looking for. In the Limited trim, they only had a demo car left, but Don assured us that we would get a great deal and that the car was in great shape because it's been driven by the daughter-in-law of the owner of Ogilvie. Great!, we thought. The only catch, he told us, was that this "demo" had a dent in the middle of the driver's door, and that the car had about 13,000 kilometres on it. So, basically, it was a used car. But still, he said we'd get a great price. Don left for about 5-10 minutes, and then came back, yelling en route at one of his colleagues about the dealings with the customer whom he had seen earlier. He then leads in to the price conversation with mention of the MSRP of this "demo" (honestly, a car with 13,000 k and a driver side dent is a used car, not a demo). This was really insulting because clearly this car is used, so MSRP is basically irrelevant. He then tells us that he'll take $4500 off of the MSRP, with hst/gst bringing the price up to $38,500. Now mind you, $2000 of the $4500 deduction is a Subaru cash back incentive that is in no way unique to the dealership itself, as all Subaru dealerships in Ontario are offering this cash back incentive right now. So basically, Don offered to take $2500 off of a used car! If anybody else drives a newly purchased $40,000 car off the lot, drives it for several thousand k's and dings the door, they can pretty much guarantee that their resale value will be somewhere south of $30,000, or at least south of $35,000. But don presented $38,500 as a final offer, non-negotiable. I then proceeded to tell him, "hey I've been shopping around in Toronto and New Hampshire, and Toronto is offering $37,500 for the same car but its new." At that point he says, "New Hampshire!?!? Have a good day, get out of here." And that's customer service at Ogilvie Subaru for you, "Ottawa-Gatineau's largest Subaru sales a service headquarters." More
I knew I wanted to buy a Subaru, was pretty sure of the model, and had the cash for an outright purchase. Went here twice; both times I walked around calling "hello?" with no one greeting me. Both times model, and had the cash for an outright purchase. Went here twice; both times I walked around calling "hello?" with no one greeting me. Both times I saw a salesman sitting at a desk along the side, who sat and stared at me. When I asked if they were salesman, each time they rolled their eyes and got up very reluctantly. The first salesman told me he couldn't give me any info cuz they were closing in half an hour. I talked him into giving me a brochure. The second time I came earlier, and Moustafa (again very reluctantly) came to help me. I told him what I wanted to drive - a 2013 Impreza hatchback, and we went out. I told him I wanted to drive on a bumpy road, and he wouldn't take me to one. He directly refused, saying the one he usually used was unavailable and he knew of no other ones. I asked the price for the car, and it turned out he had put me in a 2012, not a 2013, and didn't feel like finding a 2013 on the lot, though he knew they had them. He quoted a high price, and when I said I'd want to buy it for less he said "no". I bought from the only other Subaru dealer in Ottawa, and had a much better experience. I don't know why Ogilvie's is even there - it's certainly not to sell cars. Ogilvie's made it clear on both occasions that they didn't want to sell me anything. No one should waste their time with this place. More
