Month Long, $6000 Repair on a Subaru under Warranty I had my wife's base trim 2009 Impreza towed to Barrie Subaru in 2013 after a linkage in the manual transmission failed and shredded its internals, cl I had my wife's base trim 2009 Impreza towed to Barrie Subaru in 2013 after a linkage in the manual transmission failed and shredded its internals, clutch plates and bearings. At the time it was our only vehicle and I explained that to the service manager, but they were not interested in supplying us with a vehicle while the repair was completed. Initially the bill was going to be over $6000 on a 4 year old vehicle with 90k that we had owned since new. The warranty specified was 5 years or 100k on drive-train components. I protested and asked to speak directly to the technician who had assessed the vehicle. He said that the linkage failing was a fluke and caused damage to the other components. It was his opinion that the vehicle was otherwise in good condition and that the entire repair should be covered under warranty. It's my opinion that the service department was interested in making $6000 off me as opposed to less through a warranty channel from Subaru Canada. Eventually, Barrie Subaru did warranty the transmission itself, but stuck me with a $1325 bill for the clutch plates, bearings and labor. The repair took a month (Oct 15 to Nov 12) because no replacement transmission was available in North America. It had to come from Japan. During that month we had to share my in-laws car. When we finally picked up our car, I had real trouble starting it because Barrie Subaru had just left it. It took 20km before the fuel lines cleared and it ran normally. Customer service is obviously unimportant to these people and they just want to gouge you for whatever they can. Forget Sub-par-u, the un-Impreza and this dealership. More

I was passing through Barrie on my way to Orillia about 6 weeks ago and I dropped into Barrie Subaru. Paul Santaera, a salesman, approached to help. Probably the best auto sales guy I have worked with. No pressure, just helpful, matter of fact conversation. I was interested in one of their In-Stock Outbacks (local dealers had minimal stock and no colours I liked). Paul tried to put the deal together but my weekend was too busy to get it done. Paul reached out to me to let me know the vehicle sold, said he wanted to help get a deal done... I was extremely impressed with the level of customer service. He was interested in helping my buy the vehicle I wanted verses just sell something. 4 or 5 weeks later I couldn't wait any longer for the new vehicle, so I called every Southern Ontario Subaru dealer and got mixed service - Ok to poor. Many had no inventory, most told me they COULD PROBABLY have one transferred from another dealer in anywhere from 7-14 days, but none would commit to timing - again focused on selling cars verses helping a customer buy a car. I remembered the great service I received from Paul in Barrie so, even though they are about 150 kms from my house, I called him and Paul managed to put together the deal I wanted with the exact car I wanted in 2 days!.. Committed to delivery time before deposit, sent pictures, followed up.. everything that all the other dealers didn't do. OUTSTANDING SERVICE! I took a risk buying the vehicle sight-unseen, which goes against everything I believe in but was comfortable enough with Paul's level of service that I took a chance. I picked up my new Outback 2 days later, on a Saturday afternoon, enjoyed a Starbucks coffee, not the gutt-rott, swill coffee I drank at other dealers... Just a great experience. He was informative and confident about the product without being pushy. He was friendly and supportive throughout the process...patient with my questions (I am not really that knowledgable about cars). I felt like I was working with someone who I could trust to give me a fair deal. I ended up buying a 2015 Crosstrek and was very satisfied with the entire process and so far, I love my new car. Mike was thorough with the finance and optional extras I could consider, and again, no pressure...I felt like it was my decision. Janna was great at pick-up time...walking me through the basics and making me feel I could call anytime with follow-up questions. Now, if we could only get a dealership in Orangeville so that we can have service work done closer to home. More

I made several inquiries at Toronto dealerships and was just told it would be several months to get one. No further info was provided, I called Barrie Subaru. Michelle Payne answered my call and and gave me detailed info on the Forester and financing options. I had a test drive two days later. At that time Michelle provided more detailed info on the benefits of buying a Forester and how I could finance it according to my budget. I bought the vehicle the next week and was driving my 2015 Forester back to Toronto the following week. Although there was a shortage of 2015 Foresters last year I was able to purchase one through Barrie Subaru in several weeks and was driving my 2015 Forester by the end of January. More

All my questions were answered and I was never rushed. The buying experience was very relaxed and enjoyable. If you are tired of the bull pen of salesmen waiting to pounce bring your business here and have a relaxing visit. I had a great time with Janna, as she showed me all the features of the car and even helped me move things from my old one. I just can't say enough about how well I was treated by everyone at Barrie Subaru and I got a great car for a great price at the same time. More

We visited Barrie Subaru where Michelle Payne immediately introduced herself. She was very friendly and proceeded to explain the many features on the Forester. We told her we were not ready to purchase a vehicle immediately and she did not put any pressure on us. Several weeks later we returned to see Michelle and took a test drive. We were very impressed with the handling of the car and decided to purchase the Forester that day. Since taking possession of the car we have returned to Barrie Subaru to ask more questions and Michelle and the other employees have been really friendly and helpful. More

Even though we were not buying for a while. she gave us her full attention, was very knowledgeable about the Forester and able to answer all our questions. She provided lots of valuable input and suggestions, and showed us videos and grafts. Her attention to detail during the test drive was impressive. When it came to pricing extras, she was able to point out that some of our ideas would not work well with the Forester, for example, the hood and roof wind deflectors, and suggested others. She was so enthusiastic about the vehicle we were looking at. What a delightful young lady! There was no "sales pressure". She make us feel comfortable from the very start. We returned several times to compare the vehicle with others and just to look at it. If she was not available, and other sales persons were, we would say "no thank you" and return another time. We only wanted Michelle. She was not only capable of talking "cars", but was able to engage in other topics, for example, life experience, hobbies and family. This really put us at ease. It was almost like dealing with our own daughter. We finally decided on purchasing the Suburu Forester, 2.5I Limited package with "Eyesight Design". On delivery, she took time to walk us through the many functions of the vehicle. She also stated that we could return at any time if we had questions or concerns. As we were unsure of what to do with our old SUV, she suggested that Suburu could handle the resale and did to our satisfaction. Of all our car purchases over the past 55 years, this has to be the best yet! We would like to thank Michelle for her patience and making our purchase an enjoyable experience. We certainly enjoy our new Forester. More
