Lost a Sale Last evening, I drove myself and my partner through Toronto traffic from downtown TO to Yorkdale Toyota at the tail end of the evening rush hour to bu Last evening, I drove myself and my partner through Toronto traffic from downtown TO to Yorkdale Toyota at the tail end of the evening rush hour to buy a car. A car with the power-train and trim package I didn’t think I’d find within my time parameters. I had already resigned myself to buy a lessor model from another closer, more Toyota dealership, but at the last minute, I found an ad for exactly the car I wanted at Yorkdale Toyota. I jokingly mentioned it to my amazing salesman at the competing dealership where I was test-driving a car for the second time. And his reaction? “Let me do a little research on this other car for you. It’s important that you get the car you want, and that it truly is a good buy” It turned out that the car at Yorkdale Toyota was likely to be a better fit for us: Same year and model, same trim package, but with the power train option that I had originally wanted. Reluctantly, he bade me goodbye, and congratulated me on my (hopefully) new purchase. Off to Yorkdale Toyota we went. I had made an appointment with a salesperson at Yorkdale Toyotato see this car, and was promptly met by my new agent. This is where everything went south. He offered a test-drive, and I accepted. He then asked for my driver’s license, which I provided. He then asked to take it away to be photo-copied. I respectfully declined. I told him he could visually confirm that my license was valid (as it has been done at several other dealerships). He could make a note of my drivers license number and plate of the car that I drove in on. He had my phone number confirmed, as we had had a conversation on the phone already. In this day of heightened awareness of identity theft, there is no shortage of security experts warning of the dangers of being separated from one’s government-issued documents, and who should be allowed to take them away and copy them. I can’t think of any benefit to me or the car dealer by allowing them to make a replica of my drivers license nor was one explained to me. However, according to Yorkdale Toyota, “rules are rules” and without making a copy, no test drive (or even simply access to the interior of the car) could be allowed. I thanked my salesperson for his time, shook his hand and left. Yorkdale Toyota, because of your inflexibility, you lost a very easy sale tonight. I’ll be buying my car(s) elsewhere, now and in the future. More

Found a Ford at Yorkdale Toyota. I was looking for a used pickup truck and by chance I saw a Ford F-150 in the lot at Yorkdale Toyota. The salesman I dealt with was Jiji. Peter, the manager of the used car lot, was enthusiastic. I feel I paid a fair price for the vehicle as I had been researching this purchase for some time. When it came time to pick the truck up, it was very clean and it looked brand new. I would recommend to anyone looking for a used vehicle (Toyota or not) to stop by Yorkdale Toyota. More
