First ever car purchase In 2011 I bought my very first car (2012 Accent), brand new, from this dealership. I had 2 recurring issues with this car... The first issue involv In 2011 I bought my very first car (2012 Accent), brand new, from this dealership. I had 2 recurring issues with this car... The first issue involved the engine light, which came on constantly for no apparent reason. I brought the car in several times with this same problem. Each time, they reset the light to turn it off. The last time, they changed my knock sensor in case it was malfunctioning and making the light come on. This didn't solve the problem. The next time I went back in again with this problem (my warranty had JUST expired) they suggested an expensive service that would solve it. So of course, the impression I get is that they wanted to put off this service until I was outside of warranty. The next issue I had was a lot more serious. My gas pedal started to stick. It was very bad - to the point where I actually had to drive with both feet so that I could pull the gas pedal up with my right toe and fight acceleration by breaking with my left foot. This made it very difficult to drive because at a stop light, I had to be careful to pull the pedal up before letting go of the brake so that I didn't ram into the car in front of me. When driving, releasing the gas pedal did not slow the speed. Actually, it often accelerated. I could drive down a stretch of highway without my foot touching the pedal and not lose speed. When I parked the car, the gas would rev out of control. This was really scary to deal with, especially since I commute to Toronto. When I brought the car in with this problem, all they did was lubricate it, which worked for about a week. I've heard of these cars having this problem, but mine is one of the first because I have a lot of mileage on it. But again, they didn't want to give me a serious fix until I was outside of warranty. I think it's one of those situations where they will wait for someone to get killed before recalling the vehicle. The customer service at this location was average. I often felt as though they didn't care to deal with me or explain things in any detail (I'm a female in my 20s and they probably assumed I don't know anything anyways). I wish I had been more aggressive in asking for these issues to be dealt with properly before my warranty ran out. Overall, my first car purchase was an extremely disappointing experience. More
Friendly and Helpful I found everyone I dealt with at Guelph Hyundai to be very friendly and easy to deal with, they made recommendations that were helpful to me. I returned less than a week after the delivery of the new vehicle to purchase winter tires and steel rims, once again the staff were very friendly, Shelly even went out of her way to come out and say hello. This is my second time dealing with Guelph Hyundai and I will not hesitate to return or recommend the dealership to any of my friends and family More

I was totally disappointed in the amount of time that I spent at your facility. I understood the reason for the delay, short 2 people, but if I had been informed when I arrived there would be a delay, I wouldn't have been upset. I had made arrangements to be somewhere else at 2 fully expecting there wouldn't be a problem. My other issue, and this is going to sound petty, my seat had been completely changed, all positions had been moved. The lumbar support, the height and the position...position I see but nothing else. Poor Communications from the Get-Go A Guelph Hyundai rep phoned me on December 17 to take our 2013 Accent in for "Service 3" maintenance to brakes along with a fuel injector flush, inte A Guelph Hyundai rep phoned me on December 17 to take our 2013 Accent in for "Service 3" maintenance to brakes along with a fuel injector flush, internal port cleaning and cabin air filter replacement. I booked an appointment for December 22 at 10am on the condition I would be able to pick it up by 1pm. This was fine with the rep so I booked the car to have a rustcheck done at another location at 4pm. That work also had to be done prior to leaving early on December 23 for Christmas in Cobourg. Upon arrival at 10am, I was greeted nicely by Jason Weeks who told me the repairs would not be done until 3pm. I was not happy about this but told Jason about my other appointment and to call me if the work was done prior to that time. 3pm came and went so I called Jason at 3:10pm. He told me our Accent wouldn't be ready until 5pm since a mechanic had called in sick or had to leave because of sickness (I can't recall which it was) . Due to my 4pm appointment, he gave me two options: let them finish the job since the car was in pieces (which he preferred) or they could put the car back together (without finishing the job) and I could bring it back after Christmas. To save him and his mechanic valuable time, I cancelled the rust check appointment and re-booked it for 10:30 the next morning -- the only time available. The car was finally ready for pickup at Guelph Hyundai at 5:15pm. Since my decision to re-book my rust check appointment saved Guelph Hyundai several man-hours but cut into our Christmas holidays, I was expecting a big reduction in the cost of repairs on top of the discount coupons I had. Instead, Jason gave me about $30 off the $530 invoice -- he said questions would be asked by management if he gave more. I was also surprised that the invoice indicated that the promised time of repair was 5:30 -- not the 1pm time that had been given to me on the phone back on December 17. Was this to make it look like the job was done to the satisfaction of management? This bothered me all night so I took more of my valuable time the next day to discuss the matter with Dan Wightman, Fixed Operations Manager. He was professional and acknowledged the breakdown in communication -- he was aware of the problem with the mechanic. I asked for a more substantial discount for the very late repairs but all he would give me was a free lube, oil, filter and 19 point inspection on my next visit - a value of about $50. He also said he might discount an alignment job which he said we need. I have other issues with the work done - and whether it needed to be done. Not being an expert, I had taken the car to other mechanics who said there was no problem with the brakes and an oil change had been done in September at 3,560 km -- John McLuhan (Guelph Hyundai Service Advisor) had told me at the time that the new cars can go 6,000 km without a need for an oil change. But Mr. Wightman disagreed with that. So who to believe? I do think Guelph Hyundai staff are friendly but at the end of the day must improve their communications with their customers (i.e. keep them informed) and provide a fair discount when repairs are not done by the time promised. I would also recommend that customers be shown the suggested repairs before they are done and see the difference after they are completed. Photos would also suffice. I have marked NO to recommending this service centre but would change this to YES if the above recommendations are implemented. Sincerely, MC More

The friendly atmosphere in the dealership from all staff was exceptional. The day I picked up my new car, the Sales Associate took the time to explain all the features and help set up the phone system. I would highly recommend not only the Sales Associate but the Guelph Hyundai Dealership for their service and sales. More
