A/C Not Working after Piston and Ring Replacement For the Piston and Ring I was treated wonderfully, Brad could not have been nicer and the dealership is spectacular. Although 20 minutes after leaving For the Piston and Ring I was treated wonderfully, Brad could not have been nicer and the dealership is spectacular. Although 20 minutes after leaving the dealership my A/C compressor stared making a loud knocking sound that soon stopped but produced no cooling. I returned and they checked system and declared compressor broken. They also said they did not do anything to hurt it. It just happened. Other people have reported online a similar situation after the piston and ring service. This type of failure is typically caused by an incompressible liquid entering the compressor. The compressor had been working fine for years. Possibly when the engine was pressure washed to rid it of years of Krown rustproofing before servicing water was forced in thru the shaft seal? Anyway I am left with an expensive problem. More
