It was time to replace my aging VW GTI VR6. I had test driven a Subaru Impreza back in 1997, but had opted for a new VW at that time. Obviously, when I find a car I like, I drive it for quite awhile. This driven a Subaru Impreza back in 1997, but had opted for a new VW at that time. Obviously, when I find a car I like, I drive it for quite awhile. This time, I was looking for quality and value that would match or exceed what I had experienced with my Vee-dub. After some preliminary research, I decided to shop again for a Subaru. When my wife asked me what I wanted to do on my birthday back in May, I said "Let's go shopping for the Soob!" As there wasn't anything available nearby in Whitby where we live, we visited a dealer in North Toronto, where I was unimpressed with the once-around-the-block test drive, the one-size-fits-all sales pitch, and the sales manager's general unresponsiveness. We then checked out a second dealership, but didn't see anything I liked. Richmond Hill Subaru seemed to have quite a good selection, so as a final effort for the day, we drove up to Richmond Hill. When we got there, I walked around the lot and sourced the vehicles that met my criteria. No one came out and bothered me, which is the way I like it. As I entered the dealership's front door, a young sales rep named Robert Ruffolo got up from behind his desk, walked toward me smiling in a friendly way, and extended his hand. His approach was warm yet very direct. No sales pitch. He was more concerned with finding out what I wanted and how he could help. When I identified the vehicle I liked, he was again direct. "Would you like to take it for a drive?" The test drive was one of the best I have been on. Robert was patient and helpful in explaining the functional features of the car, while suggesting a route which let me explore the vehicle's power and handling to my heart's content, including a stretch of winding road and a good run on the highway. When I expressed my lack of knowledge with some aspect of the car, he was never condescending or defensive, always helpful. I was impressed. When we got back inside the dealership, I told him I was looking for the same package, but something a little newer with fewer kilometers. He did not try to persuade me, or force me to choose a different vehicle off the lot. Instead, we exchanged contact information and agreed to be in touch in a few days to see what else might have come in. During the next three days, I researched the pre-owned offerings online of every Subaru dealership in Ontario. By that time, I had an excellent idea of the feature packages being offered and prices asked in the different model years. Then I called Robert back, to ask about a vehicle with the right package that had shown up on their website, with no photo and no further info other than the year - 2011. He got right on it, identified the car and offered to let me test drive it immediately. The second test drive was even better than the first. I really got to see what this baby could do, within reason of course. I loved it! The purchase process went smoothly. No hype. No pressure. Everyone I met at the dealership was straightforward and sincere. The tone was "how can we serve you?", from start to finish. Robert even went so far as to take me back to their service shop and introduce me to the service manager, Eugene Mercer, which turned out to be important, as I'll explain in a bit. I should point out that I did visit one other dealership before going back to Richmond Hill Subaru. While the sales guy there was friendly enough, the test drive was the around-the-block variety, and my request to take the car on the highway was refused. During that same period, the first dealership I had visited phoned repeatedly to tell me about other vehicles they had received. I asked them to follow up with detailed information, but they never came through. A quick word about Richmond Hill Subaru's "no haggle" pricing policy. What they told me is that they discount their prices to the bone, as low as they can possibly go, right from the start. As I said above, I proved this out by pricing similar vehicles at dealerships all across Ontario. I can't say I got a bargain-basement price on my vehicle, but for the features and kilometers I wanted, I got a fair price, and I was very happy with the deal. Now for the rest of the story. Before I signed the deal, Robert took me for the conventional walk-around to inspect the car for any minor interior or exterior discrepancies I might see. In addition to the comprehensive mechanical check-up and servicing they had performed, for which Robert had shown me the documentation, they had done a beautiful job detailing the vehicle for delivery. The vehicle was immaculate. Again I was impressed. At home, I drove the car for about a week before I noticed a problem. The two brackets securing the rear bumper fascia to the underbody had broken away. I called Robert, who suggested I speak directly with the service manager. Eugene was just as patient and understanding as Robert had been throughout the sales process. After studying the photographs he suggested I send, he determined that the bumper cover itself had broken away and needed to be replaced. Eugene requested approval from the general manager, and the bumper cover was replaced, free of charge. But there's more. While waiting for the bumper fascia to be delivered, I noticed two other issues I had missed during my final inspection. They too were repaired at no cost to me. My 2011 Subaru Impreza Sport is the tenth car I have purchased in my life. Not a large number perhaps, but enough to understand when the process is satisfying and when it's not. I'm not exaggerating one bit when I state that Richmond Hill Subaru has provided me with the most enjoyable and satisfying automobile purchasing experience I've ever known. I'm not surprised they've been voted 2013 Subaru Dealer Of The Year! More
I spoke to Ben and went in. He was very nice and knew a lot about the car I was looking at. We took it for a test drive it was a nice car. My credit was not that good. I wanted to try and finance it to hel lot about the car I was looking at. We took it for a test drive it was a nice car. My credit was not that good. I wanted to try and finance it to help build my credit back up. And if I didn't go threw I'd just pay cash to have the car. Later that night the manager called around 8 pm to get all my info to see is I would be financing it or just pay cash. It has been 2 weeks and have not herd anything from either of them. If you are looking for a car fast and want service, good service I don't think this is the place to go. I have gone to a different dealer and payed cash for a car but was not then one I wanted. It would of been nice to have a call back. My dad deals with Subaru for work and racing and I will not be able to recommend this dealership to his customers or co workers. This is the Richmond Hill location I am referring to. Thank you More
I went to this dealership on July 12, 2013 to consider buying a Subru Forester. I had an open mind and test drove another Japense make before arriving at the Subaru dealership. Was greeted by Ben Izadi a buying a Subru Forester. I had an open mind and test drove another Japense make before arriving at the Subaru dealership. Was greeted by Ben Izadi at the door. Ben expalined the Forester features, and let me go for a test drive. It was not difficult to make a decision to purchase the Forester. The price negotiation with Ben was a breeze. Unlike other places, Ben did not have to go inside 5 times to 'consult' with manger. It was all done in less than 5 minutes. When I went to pick up the car, it was all ready. Ben explained in detail about all the features, and also set up my phone to car bluetooth. I would recommend Ben and the dealership to all. More
I was looking to buy a used 2009 to 2010 Impreza to replace my 2004 G35 and when I first arrived at the dealership last week being April 16th, Ben greeted me with a smile and asked how he could assist replace my 2004 G35 and when I first arrived at the dealership last week being April 16th, Ben greeted me with a smile and asked how he could assist me. I told him, what I was looking for in a car, the mileage and my price budget. Based on that, Ben showed me 3 different Impreza models, allowed me to sit in it and then suggested I go for one in particular mainly because of the mileage and the price. At first I thought the price of the car was too high but with great research I found that the price was actually reasonable compared to other Subaru dealerships in the GTA, including used car dealerships. Ben and I sat down afterwards and I told him that I would like to bring in my dad to look at the recommended car of choice. I went back the same day with my dad and we both test drove the car and it felt really nice in the sense of suspension, pickup and comfort. Sure it doesn't have all the bells and whistles as my Infiniti did, but I believe that in the long run it will be a better choice for many reasons, particularly gas and repair costs down the road. I believe that Subaru is a utility car in the sense its for the daily driver. When it got down to working the numbers out, Ben allowed me to discuss the numbers with my dad, and the fact that I would be trading in my Infiniti as well. Ben gave us time to think it over and we went back to see him on April 23rd to work out the proposed numbers and negotiations. Long story short after offering three to four counter offers, both of us came to a final decision that would work best for us which left us with a smile. We were happy and they (dealership was happy) but they ensured that the entire process was pleasant. Then we met Sam who is the Business Manager I believe and he thanked us for our business and showed us the paperwork to be signed and even offered us the details of extended warranty to which we politely accepted it based on the services offered and the price. Overall the entire transaction went smooth, and most importantly both Ben and Sam showed excellent business ethics and ensured that we all left with a smile in the end. Definitely worth checking out Richmond Hill Subaru. More
My wife and I walked in to this dealership looking for an Impreza. Alex approached us in a friendly manner. I immediately liked Alex because unlike an aggressive sales guy that you will typically find at a d Impreza. Alex approached us in a friendly manner. I immediately liked Alex because unlike an aggressive sales guy that you will typically find at a dealer, he was all about information, and answering your questions. His thoroughness and openness translated into an almost immediate trust. Even during the negotiation process you will find that Alex is here to help you instead of trying to take advantage of you. For those who are looking into purchasing a Subaru, not only do I recommend this dealership, but I would recommend that you deal with Alex directly during the sales process. Sam was great as well. He cut to the chase and once again exemplify the informative aspects of vehicle protection plans, and the extended warranty offerings. I never felt pushed or intimidated into making a decision. If there were any persuasions, they were of the informative and helping kind, ensuring that you make an informative and smart purchasing decision. Vehicle walk-through and pick up was also a charm. I really don't have anything negative here, and it is clear that my buying experience from this dealership was all around positive. Highly recommended. More
From the street the dealership looks very understated but once you enter the people and the product are very welcoming. I was so impressed by the time and care the manager Scott and Sales rep Alex took to inform us about the advantages of AWD and the many positive attributes and features of a Subaru vehicle. They were always available to us by in person visits, phone calls, and e-mail with no question too dumb or small to be addressed in a fair and unbiased manner. They did not apply high pressure uncomfortable sales tactics or try and rush our decision. Scott, Alex and all the staff we encountered were a pleasure to deal with and we highly recommend this dealership to anyone considering a Subaru purchase or wanting to learn more about Subaru. More
Coming from Georgian Bay Area, I was a bit sceptical to visit a dealership from TO area being used to a small community atmosphere. As soon as we meet with the salesman (Ben Izadi) we felt right at home. He was very honest and listen to our needs and numerous questions. I strongly recommended this Subaru dealership to anyone because I think the relationship between seller-buyer is based on fairness. Not only I was looking to buy a used car but I had a trade-in. Within a few minutes, they gave me a fair amount for it without any torment. The negotiation part was actually pleasant. No pressure, just real an rational negotiation. At the end, I think it was a win-win situation. Finally I was glad to made the 2 hours trip, it was worth it, thanks to the professionalism of Ben Izadi and the others at Richmond Hill Subaru. More
