Hello Ken, my name is Leigh Heppner and I’m the General Manager at Preston. I understand our service manager has already tried to discuss your cocnerns with you so I wanted to clarify some points in the reviews you have left for us. The 2 year lube oil and filter program from General Motors covers a ‘lube oil and filter’ change, commonly referred to as just an oil change. It is commonly explained as 2 years of free oil changes and there was no implication that fuel filters would be changed during an oil change. I can assure you that neither our sales term nor our service team would have promised a fuel filter replacement under a free oil change program as this is a very well known program to GM dealership staff. As for the price of the parts and labour, I want to clarify that we do not make up the prices for these services all on our own. The published labour time in the labour time guide that we (and most any other reputable shops) use for the fuel filter replacement is 0.8 hours and our posted door rate is $149 per hour. We charged exactly this amount and the original service repair request which you signed had $119.20 plus parts and tax written on the paperwork. I am confident that we were upfront about this charge. I will certainly apologize, however, that you were made to feel like a criminal. As a safety precaution for our customers, we have our service attendants request to see the ‘tag number’ on the paperwork the customer is given so that we can match it up to the tag on your keys. I suspect your finger may have been covering the tag number so he could not verify it. What our service manager Dan was trying to explain is that we valet park service vehicles so that customers don’t need to walk into our back lot and search for their vehicle, as a convenience. It also gives us the opportunity to remove all plastic coverings and sanitize the vehicle before you take your vehicle home. Because of this, we have to bring the keys up with the vehicle and have this verification system instead of simply handing you the keys after payment. It has nothing to do with insurance, but I’m sorry this wasn’t explained well. If you want to discuss this any further I am happy to speak to you. My number is 604-534-4154.
