They use every trick in the book to sell you an overpriced car. The building is huge and fancy. Picture how much they have to mark up their vehicles to pay for that place. We walked in and were greeted by a very friendly fellow. He took us to his cubicle and carefully wrote down what we were looking for. My wife asked if we could just go outside and look around the lot. They don't roll that way, apparently. So we told him we wanted a 2 year old Jeep Grand Cherokee with less than 40 000 km on it. He wrote this all down carefully. Then he went away. A "sales manager" came back, sat down at the desk while the original sales guy hovered over our backs. The manager asked us how much we were willing to spend. We asked if we could just go look at Jeeps. He said he needed to get a good picture of what we wanted, and then they'd bring up the perfect vehicle for us. We said we were looking in the $30 000 price range. He asked if we would buy it today. We said no. They both went away and came back and said they had brought the perfect vehicle for us to the front. We went outside with our original sales guy. He took us to a 2008 Laredo with 65 000 km on it. It was filthy, had a cracked windshield, and was obviously not what we had described we wanted at all. The sales guy asked, enthusiastically, "Do you love it?". We said we didn't. He wouldn't even tell us how much they wanted for it. We went back inside. The sales guy went away. We suspected the play was to now bring up a cleaner and nicer vehicle, which they would tell us was what we wanted, but was over our budget. While the sales guy was gone, we searched ads on our phones. We found a vehicle that was exactly what we were looking for on another lot. It was priced right and was the right year. Yet another "sales manager" came back and sat down while our sales guy hovered over our shoulders. He said they couldn't get us what we wanted for the price we wanted. I held out my phone and showed him the ad from another dealership selling exactly what we wanted for the price we wanted. He said they didn't have anything in that price range. They clearly didn't want to let us leave, but we managed to get away. We felt a little dirty. If you shop there, be prepared to be wowed, pressured, wooed, courted, tricked, manipulated, and belittled. It is an unpleasant experience. We left and went to the other dealership where we weren't pressured at all. We ended up buying a vehicle there. More
