Concerning the purchase of a ‘certified pre-owned’ VW. TLDR: Run! Away and fast. I purchased the car in good faith from a very friendly and helpful rep. This is my 4th VW. I am no stranger to their TLDR: Run! Away and fast. I purchased the car in good faith from a very friendly and helpful rep. This is my 4th VW. I am no stranger to their quirks. But this was something else. Less than 6000 km after my purchase, and just under a year both the turbo and the water pump broke. Both are known issues with the year and model of car I have. 7K in repairs, about half the purchase price of the car. I was just 3 months out of power train warranty and still under the 100K. After hearing that the damage was not related to a small and coincidentally timed impact damaging the body, and thus not the responsibility of the insurance, I contacted my dealer, to see if they could help me since I was so close to the original power train warranty. They wouldn’t and suggested I contact VW Canada. VW Canada would not help me either with a good faith customer loyalty reimbursement for repairs, since the car had no record of repairs and “was not well maintained.” This was, as the second owner, not my doing or responsibility. That my car was considered “not well maintained” by VWCanada *WAS NOT* disclosed to me at the time of sale, despite the fact that other items were disclosed. Nor was it disclosed that its repairs history was considered substandard. I cannot believe that Yorkdale VW would have missed this fact. I know very little about the mechanics of cars, must rely on the expertise of others, and this fact was taken advantage of. I made a very costly purchase, in good faith, and am now left with an enormous repair bill on top of the purchase price of the car. For what its worth VW Canada CPO is garbage. In the US it’s 24k KM or 2 years. At Yorkdale all it means is the car is used, which a Carfax report can tell you. The warranty a car comes with is for 30 days. You, as the owner get the power train warranty regardless of where you buy it. They will then try and upsell you an expensive add on warranty on top of the purchase price FOR a car they know has not been maintained and without telling you that. Like a magician a sleight of hand is used to distract you from the fact of what is actually being sold. This is my last VW. They just lost a life-long and loyal customer. It’s not the band it used to be. The whole industry—insurance, mechanics, dealers, car makers, the lot of them are shady, and everyone is looking for an excuse, and another person to direct you to so as to not to take responsibly (read: pay money) when things go wrong. If I ran my business like this, I would have long ago been out of business. Like I said. RUN AWAY FAST. More
