BUYER BEWARE -- They slap lipstick on a pig to make a quick buck and are defiant when you seek a proper fix! Purchased a 3 year old "Honda Certified" vehicle with extended warranty from Johnathan Howes a quick buck and are defiant when you seek a proper fix! Purchased a 3 year old "Honda Certified" vehicle with extended warranty from Johnathan Howes and noticed rust on side panel after 4 months. I was aware of an accident (Sales Agent Johnathan Howes advised me the vehicle was driven by a relative of the Sales Manager who had an accident in his driveway while backing up...I had trouble believing this as there are backup cameras and warning bells that go off). I told Johnathan the story didn't sound plausable but I was unaware that the dealership didn't send the vehicle to be properly repaired before resale. After 6 months of ownership, I brought the vehicle for service to a local Honda dealership (not WOH) who suggested I return to WOH to discuss the fact that two front tires were different brand from two back tires, front headlamp cracked and taking in water/condensation and entire side of vehicle is wavy, containing visible rust. Dealership said this would not have passed "Honda certification". After no response from an email to Iftikhar Khaliq, I took half day off work to attend at the WOH shop to discuss issue (had to wait a few months until completed cancer treatements and was strong enough to do this). Sonya was pleasant and suggested I talk with Trevor Carew, Sales Manager to get it rectified. She agreed there was clearly something awry. Trevor started work in the afternoon so I was given Trevor's card and sent home without resolution. 10 days with no response from Trevor Carew had me call again with threats to escalate this issue. Trevor Carew was immediately defensive and refused to assist me in any way as warranty doesn't cover rust. I purchased a "honda certified" vehicle under the assumption that there is some standard of care taken in preparing the vehicle for the next owner. This is not the case for WOH. They are looking for a quick buck and want to silence me. I called Honda Canada for assistance. They asked me to speak with the Service Manager before we escalate further. Left message for Jesse, Service Manager and Trevor Carew called me back stating he is the only person I can deal with at WOH and he's not changing his mind. Please steer clear of Trevor Carew. He is an unscrupulous crook. This situation is so odd that I am of the opinion that Trevor Carew is trying to cover up the accident his relative caused with this vehicle. Otherwise, I believe any reasonable human would have tactfully and expeditiously handled this situation. More

I bought a certified 2016 Honda Civic in April 2022. When I picked up the vehicle my wife noticed the windshield had a bad chip with cracks at the top passenger side that would eventually spread to the When I picked up the vehicle my wife noticed the windshield had a bad chip with cracks at the top passenger side that would eventually spread to the whole windshield. I had just went from the dealer to my daughters about two km away and my wife noticed the chip when getting into the passenger side. I went right back and showed Dan the salesperson. First he said that could have happened when you took it off the lot. I said I was only gone 10 minutes and assured him that wasn’t possible on side streets that are all paved going 50km/h. He agreed it was not likely however I was very annoyed he would even go there. He then said because it was above the field of view and on the black part of the windshield (which made it harder to see) it wasn’t part of the certification - in other words your stuck with it. I was further annoyed and vehemently disagreed. He called the service manager who oversees the certification and he said it shouldn’t have been certified and needs to be replaced. This is an American made car and it would take a couple weeks to order and replace. I said that was fine since this was a second car. I also mentioned the brakes felt rough and they’re was a noise coming from the air vents. The service manager stated the brakes passed inspection and we’re fine and the AC noise is normal. So I left my vehicle to have the windshield replaced. I picked up the vehicle once the windshield was replaced and took it home. Later that year when I had the snows rotated for summer, my mechanic, whom I fully trust and has always been straight with me, advised me the brakes and rotors were badly worn and all need replacing. I found this unusual since I had only put around 5,000 km - mostly highway - since purchasing. I asked him why they would have worn so badly so quickly. He said based on the condition, the wear far exceeded mileage driven from certification to current. So my concern about the brakes at purchase was valid however it was ignored by Whitby Honda Sales and Service. My true belief is the brakes weren't certifiable but Honda passed. Now for the AC… during the heat wave in early September my AC could not keep the vehicle cool. As I stated earlier at purchase I had mentioned an odd noise that the service manager stated was normal. After some online investigating I found that this year and model of the Honda civic has a defect where the condenser corrodes due to the refrigerant used. I called Whitby Honda and talked to the service department and they checked and stated it was an American car however was covered under the extended warranty due to defect. There would be a charge to analyze however that would be waived if it was a condenser issue. If anything else was wrong I would be charged which I understood. I made the appointment to get the AC checked. I brought the vehicle in and when I went through the procedure at Service admittance I mentioned the defect Warranty. The lady at the desk stated there was no warranty since this is a US car. I told her I was assured during the appointment phone call that it was. She then took me to the Service manager who echoed the same. I was really irate at this point having been run around by Honda already. I told him I had advised sales who did not take my concerns seriously when buying the car. I mentioned the issues with the brakes and AC concerns. The Service manager just stated that sales and service are independent which is bogus since I bought this car from Honda and bringing it to Honda Service. I could care less about Honda sidestepping accountability. In the end they basically said it was all on me… the fact that they certified with worn out brakes and a broken windshield and ignored my concerns about AC noise at purchase has nothing to do with Honda. I left to seek repairs elsewhere. They sold you the car but they won’t stand behind it. No more Honda for me. More

The entire experience with John Baird and this dealership was awful. I would not recommend this location or John Baird. The frustration and disappointment with the service we experienced while purchasing my was awful. I would not recommend this location or John Baird. The frustration and disappointment with the service we experienced while purchasing my vehicle was an EPIC FAIL!!! Trevor Carew was not in the least bit interested or empathetic on the situation when brought forward to him. THEY DON'T care. Shame on them all. We for sure will not be recommending this dealership or John Baird. Go somewhere where they appreciate that you're spending your hard-earned dollars. More
