Unprofessional and uncomfortable I recently purchased a new vehicle at Subaru Calgary and for the most part had a decent experience, that was until I met with Trina (finance manager). I recently purchased a new vehicle at Subaru Calgary and for the most part had a decent experience, that was until I met with Trina (finance manager). My experience with her felt rather uncomfortable and I felt she did not act in a professional manner. When asked about how many people don’t purchase their 3M package she made in my opinion a racist remark about how only Chinese people don’t because they are “frugal”... definitely a racist stereotype. When signing papers and discussing extended warranty and 3M packages, she also mentioned several times how I should review it with someone like “my dad”. As a young female buyer this was very upsetting because I felt my choices were being undermined and undervalued. All in all, I hope to never have to sit alone with her again. I should add that I worked with salesman Travis and he was thorough, respectful and I didn’t feel pressured to have to purchase more then I needed to. A recent update is that Trina personally called me after this to apologize and ask for me to take the review down. She also offered to pay for my registration which I gratefully accepted. I’d like to keep things transparent by keeping my post up in the hopes that future buyers will be informed of this dealership and it’s employees. More

First time Subaru buyer - will be back for another For some reason people think there shouldn't be sales pressure at a dealership. Time to give it up and expect the pressure and tactics that you may or may not like, and if you can do that going into the purchase you'll be that much more comfortable with it all. When you're spending that kind of money, it's very easy to walk away and re-think the purchase, so sales pressure in some cases is needed and it works, nothing wrong with that. Just imagine if there were no tactics or pressure used, they'd hardly sell a car. It just depends on how far it goes and whether it can end in a smile when you walk out or a negative response and honesty is kept in the picture. Example: at one point in the process early on, I walked out on Giovanni in the middle of the final agreement - I had more questions still and felt I could do better if I had some time to think it over - he could have pushed much harder, or gotten upset, or both, but he didn't, at least not face-to-face. After that fact if he said something to his peers, so be it, I probably deserved it. I think the fact that he made that part of the process comfortable for me, meant that I'd be happy to go back and look at re-negotiating the offer, which I did and I did better on, though I still believe they made money off of me, even though they said they didn't. One suggestion for the buyer, have everything written down for the deals you're making, just so nothing is missed. Never owned a Subaru, and with only two dealership options in Calgary, you don't have much choice for shopping around - I point this out, because with limited competition one would assume the dealership doesn't have to work as hard for your business. That was not the case with Subaru Calgary and Giovanni. I was impressed from start to finish. He did what he had to do for the sale, and did it respectfully. Yes, I could have gone to Red Deer, Edmonton, or Lethbridge, for what though? I'd prefer to see my sales person again next time I'm in for service or a new car. If I had any feedback for Subaru Calgary, I would say I wish management gave the front line sales people more autonomy with the sale. While I get management needs to be there, I also feel there should be some things the front line sales person can negotiate, and it would save some time in the process. Not the sales persons fault, just part of the battle they're placed in between buyer and upper management. The long and short of it is, it was a smooth process and I'd be back for sure, directly to Giovanni. That guy worked hard - really took the time and did it with professionalism and a smile when I'm sure there were times he would have loved to wring my neck. I'm not sure of his experience in sales, but if I had any say I'd like to see him in management next time I buy a car there. Trina was also awesome in Finance, and Ken in management is fun too, he's got some tactics for sure, but that's all they are and really it was all good. He and Giovanni seemed to work quite well together as a team. Long review, but I thought it was worth pointing out a few things and wanted to highlight the solid work Giovanni did along the way. Horrible staff I was in a while back to try and get some warranty work done on my car. The service manager came out and took pictures of my car with his cell phone. When I did try to call they completely avoided me. A month ago I decided to order some accessories for my car. The parts guy ordered me the wrong parts. Told me he would fly the new stuff in. Waited 3 weeks for a call and nothing. Decided to go there myself and was informed that the guy no longer works there and the parts are non returnable even though It wasn't my fault, it was the guy they had hired. Thanks for selling me $500 worth of stuff I can't use or get a refund on. I never have an issue with Centaur Subaru! More
