I recently visited a car salon at the Yorkdale mall where I looked at a preproduction Nissan Frontier. I’m very interested in this car and did give them my contact so that a local dealer could reach out to m I looked at a preproduction Nissan Frontier. I’m very interested in this car and did give them my contact so that a local dealer could reach out to me. (I did indicate my preferred method: email). I was promptly contacted by the local dealer rep, but the email seemed odd: one sentence. No introduction, no salutation. I thought maybe that’s how they do it now. I responded to the email saying that I’d like to find out more about the car once they are at the dealers. Again, Fred answered very briefly, almost like he doesn’t even care whether or not someone is interested. I work in sales too. A lead where a customer reaches out to a sales person, rather than a sales person having to “hit the pavement” is worth gold. Here is what Fred said (this is the entire content, no salutation, etc): “ We have already had 4 of them. And sold immediately. If you do some research . You can find out all about them. I have an sv in stock ready for sale” I’m doing my research: Me reaching out to them is essentially asking them: please help me with my research. Please “take me by the hand” and show me the car. I’m asking them to wow me, and show me why they are worth my hard earned $50,000. Maybe people buy cars like chewing gum nowadays, and it’s barely worth even trying to be the guide to your customer. Thanks for your advice. I’ll do my research… at the Toyota dealership. More
