I have bought 2 Subaru's from Centaur Subaru in the past 3 years, the sales guys were excellent. HOWEVER, with my current 2024 Subaru Wilderness I am NOT HAPPY with the service department and their off the 3 years, the sales guys were excellent. HOWEVER, with my current 2024 Subaru Wilderness I am NOT HAPPY with the service department and their off the cuff crap about how a new car that just turned 50K is OK with burning a litre of oil every 5K! Two different people at the service department have said, "that is typical of the Boxer engine".... I said, "then why does it say to change the oil at 10K and not tell you that it will burn a litre of oil every 5K? Because nobody told me that they are oil burners when I bought it!" My first Subaru, a 2022 Outback never used oil, same engine, a 2.5L Boxer. The service people said to bring my car in and they will check it every 3K for a 10K period. So I went today and they said that the oil change has to be done at the Centaur dealership to start the oil use checkup.....I said that I was in BC and had to do it just before I got home so my warranty wasn't voided by being late, after the 50K mileage....TOO BAD is what they basically said, my receipt from 300KM ago would not be good enough to start the 3K check, I have to have the oil changed at the dealership to start the check....WHAT?!?! So I went to the Sales department and looked at the hybrids and asked the young sales guy about them and then talked about the engine and if it will use (burn) a litre of oil like my 2024 Wilderness. He seemed shocked, nobody has ever come back and complained about a Subaru using that much oil. He went and spoke to the manager in Sales and came back and said the manager said that doesn't seem right, speak to the Service department. I told him the above story and then he went and talked to the Sales manager again....guess what, the story changed, the Sales Manager now said, "yes, it might be possible for a new car to use (burn) a litre of oil." So what the xxxx, a new Subaru will use (burn) a litre of oil every 5 K, that is xx! So, it seems that the Subaru Dealership I bought 2 new cars from is not interested in dealing with what appears to be a bad engine, no new car should use (BURN) a litre of oil in 5K, but it seems like such an easy thing for a dealer to have their service department tell people, "that is a common thing for a Subaru to use oil, its the engine design." THEN I THINK THAT EVERYONE THAT IS GOING TO BUY A SUBARU NEEDS TO KNOW THEY ARE OIL BURNERS! Don't give me xx at the service department to, "read the manual and it tells you to check the oil every gas fill up," that is a cop out to fixing the real issue, AN ENGINE THAT IS NOT OPERATING PROPERLY AND IS BURNING OIL! I am going to unload this piece of crap and buy a car that doesn't keep the oil companies in business, I would recommend everyone that is interested in buying a Subaru with a 2.5L Boxer engine to ask the salesperson and Manager to sign something saying the engine doesn't use a litre of oil every 5000KM or it will be investigated and replaced if found to be BURNING OIL; they should tell you prior to purchasing that the car, "That it may use a litre of oil every 5000KM, is that something that won't bother you from a new car?" BET THE ANSWER FROM ALL CUSTOMERS WOULD BE A RESOUNDING, NO! Peter Smith a not so happy 2024 Centaur Subaru Wilderness purchaser. More
