Beyond that, I’m not a big fan of the overall business model of the company itself which included many unexpected hidden costs and fees which were mostly disclosed only in the process of signing the final agreement, and seemed to focus on impressive shiny spaces more like new dealerships. Heads up to expect a number of extras on top of the listed price like a charge for a required oil change and detailing package for (about $500), required financing for at least 7 months to get the listed price, and even a charge for the gas already in the tank. The car didn’t come with summer tires in the middle of summer, and there was a charge both to buy used summer tires and then to put them on. Plus sales pressure for extra add-ons like third-party warranties and rust-proofing treatments that don’t seem to be well reviewed online. Perhaps this model is becoming common for used car dealerships, but it wasn’t the case at all of them, and there was a big contrast between the two used dealerships I dealt with (the other had no hidden fees, no surprises, and included a 30 day return policy). On the positive side, the company seems to have a large selection of models, and they did honour the one-month warrantee and replace the battery which died after a few weeks—there was no charge and no hassle for this, the folks at the on-site shop were lovely, and they got the car in quickly. On the negative, there was a chemical smell in the car that that didn’t go away even after the expensive detailing, and was still noticeable six months later even after driving with the windows down for months. The windshield also cracked beyond repair after a few months from a short-circuit malfunction in the heated area at the bottom, which I was told was likely from putting in the cheapest possible after-market windshield, a brand that apparently fails routinely in the first year and is mostly used by used car dealerships. I don’t know what the history of the car is, but these plus several other small issues which were unexpected for such a new car, plus an engine that often feels like it’s struggling for power compared to my previous much older Subaru, and the strong chemical treatment smell, has made me wonder whether it was damaged/compromised in some way that wasn’t obvious on the Carfax report. Perhaps a more thorough inspection might have caught something that the inspection I took it in for didn’t, so it’s always worth paying for the best inspection you can get at another shop. The body seems to be in very good shape though, and I am hoping for the best. More
