I genuinely tried to give SOUTHGATE Volkswagon dealership the benefit of the doubt, but over 3 months, trust has steadily eroded due to repeated issues in both Sales and Service and Management. I purchased a 2025 ID.Buzz (127K over 7 year finance) here and worked with: • GM: Marvin Henschel • Sales Manager: Danny • Service Advisor: Anastasia List of events that lead to erosion of trust, and general lack of any expectation to be treated well as a customer. 🚫 Sales — Transparency + Follow-Through Needed • Included charger pricing changed 3 times $2,000 → $1,000 → later found on their own website for ~$537 → Feels misleading rather than honest • Promised perks weren’t actually perks Examples: Free car wash + free first tire mount are standard for all customers → Feels insincere when framed as special favors • $21,000 rebate introduced shortly after purchase Dealer says it’s VW Canada’s decision VW Canada says it's the dealer’s decision → A frustrating runaround with no accountability taken by anyone. → Show me in writing clearly this is how it works, rather than saying there is nothing you can do. Left with assuming that the dealership was in on it. Multiple 7 emails/calls to GM (Marvin Henschel) went unanswered until I showed up in person. After that e-mails were still unanswered. • Winter tire package lacked proper explanation Paid $3100 for Winter Tires in Finance Package Was verbally told rims were included—they were not Learned later from Norden that more cost-effective square setups exist (rotatable = longer life) → Transparent options should be offered before installation, not discovered after → Sales told me they try to get me best price on rims, month later, nothing. Moving on. • Incorrect info about Electrify Canada promo Twice told it didn’t exist I contacted VW Canada myself — received the promo instantly → Basic product knowledge + initiative would improve customer confidence 🧊 Service — Respect for Time + Better Communication Needed • Appointment confirmed for 10:15am → Told car wouldn’t be touched until 1pm → Don’t schedule times you can’t honor → People need their cars for their daily affairs and assume you understand that. •Told that I Needed car no later by 4pm for work, got it after 5pm No proactive update, no apology — just annoyance when I asked for timing → Communication is a foundation of service 🧩 Overall Pattern I Experienced I had good experiences, (front desk, shuttle team, and Mitchell in finance). But overall, the culture feels like: • Low transparency • Poor communication • Dodge and avoid • Minimal responsibility or apology • Customer left to solve issues alone • Not left with a sense that I'm a valued customer Even after spending over $100,000 on a new EV, I didn’t feel valued once the sale was done. What do I have to compare to? Notably, West End Mitsubishi treated me and my 2012 car far better — and I didn’t even buy from them. 💬 Final Thought This review isn’t about perfection — it’s about the basics: customer care, anticipation of needs, honesty, communication, and follow-through. Until those improve, I cannot recommend Southgate Volkswagen and will be servicing my ID.Buzz elsewhere. More
