Good bunch of guys to deal with! Did end up getting a lot less for trade in then I wanted but I guess that’s how this finance game works. More

Won't Return - Trust is Gone I bought a new Elantra and was talked into buying the dealership's maintenance package ("free" lifetime oil changes, etc) upon my salesman's insistent I bought a new Elantra and was talked into buying the dealership's maintenance package ("free" lifetime oil changes, etc) upon my salesman's insistent pitch. What a mistake!!! ----------------------- FIRST: The salesman calculated the value of the lifetime oil changes based on a change every 6000 km and priced at the dealership's inflated cost ($75-$80, as opposed to the $40-$50 cost of an Elantra oil change elsewhere). This despite the "NORMAL MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE" outlined in my car's owner's manual recommending oil changes for every 12,000 km of driving. By calculating twice as many oil changes as recommended in the Hyundai manual, at a cost up to double the cost elsewhere, it leads to the misleading conclusion that you are getting a "deal" with the package. If an owner, however, changed oil per Hyundai's NORMAL MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE at a competitively priced garage, my calculations suggest that it would take about 10 years for the free oil changes to recoup the package cost. But it gets worse! Your maintenance package is voided if you don't also have Northstar perform ALL vehicle servicing per their schedule. That means that every 2nd oil change must be accompanied by a #2 ($60+GST), a #3 ($195+GST, or a #4 ($492+GST) servicing. Once again, checking with local garages I found that the costs for these additional servicings far exceeded what would have been charged for the same work elsewhere. ----------------------- SECONDLY: During the sales pitch, the fact that the package is NOT transferable if I sell the car is a fact that was conveniently omitted from the pitch. Furthermore, this is not documented on service package literature which I was given. With only 70k km on my car I would like to sell it for a larger vehicle now. The paid oil change package could be a nice little extra for a potential buyer - EXCEPT that Northstar will not allow the package to be transferred to another person, even though I have religiously stuck to their maintenance schedule. To find this out I had to speak to 5 different people about it (general reception, sales mgr, service reception, Service Mgr, and Marketing Coordinator) before I got a definitive explanation. Before receiving the final definitive answer, the previous 4 suggested non-transferability based on one or more of the following explanations provided: a) The package wasn't bought at the same time I bought the car. (the final car invoice payment receipt was dated May 23. Service Package was bought and paid May 24) b) It would be impossible for the dealership to track owner name changes if the package was transferred from the original buyer to a subsequent owner. c) The maintenance package purchase was a contract between Northstar and me. It was not associated with the car and it could not be assigned to someone else. (To this, I asked if I can then continue using MY package on my next car. You can guess what the response was.) d) "All warranty packages either in house or third party are always nontransferable and nowhere does it state that it is." (This was written in the final, definitive response I received. I suppose that its purpose was to explain why the condition was not ever stated or documented.) -------------------------------------- Between the (probably) unnecessary oil changes, the requirement that you must always use Northstar's more expensive service department for all servicing (which I imagine more than makes up for the "free" oil change), and the fact that it is also non-transferable - I suspect that Northstar makes a killing on this package. I can’t imagine that any vehicles ever use the package through to the car’s end of “LIFETIME”. No wonder the salesman pushed it so hard. Otherwise, the service department staff were generally friendly in person, but the department was not well run. I get very frustrated when making a 2:00 appointment for an oil change, and then finding out at 4:00 that they still had not begun working on my car. I don't have time to sit in their dealership all afternoon waiting for a job to be done that would be done in 10 minutes at a drive through. I was also unimpressed by the varied and weak explanations provided for not allowing transfer. (E.G. they can't keep track of the new owner's name? Really?) Through this last incident, I never once felt that anybody I spoke with at the dealership cared about my concern. Nor would they endeavor to make their documentation clearer. The perception I have of the dealership is one of arrogance and indifference. RECOMMENDATION: DO NOT BUY THE MAINTENANCE PACKAGE. You will almost surely lose on it since it is so easily voided. It locks you into expensive (and probably excessive) servicing at their dealership. I will not return to Northstar Hyundai for servicing, nor for another vehicle purchase. More

I asked the lady of the service department if they had anything earlier than 7:30am. She replied that I could leave the keys in the drop box at front and leave the car. On the day of the servicing, I arrived early as I stated, and dropped my keys and left my car in front of the service department doors. After hours without hearing from the dealership, I called to ask for an update on my repair. Guess what, they did not check the drop box for any keys and my car has been sitting in front of them for hours. It is ridiculous that I had an appointment and I followed their instructions exactly and I am screwed this way. Apologies was all I got, when the error is going to cost me time, patience and money. Now I wait until they can provide me with another update on my servicing for my car. Needless to say, I will never come back here and will never recommend this place. In fact, I will go out of my way to not bring them business. Update The service was completed now. On Friday September 1, 2017 I arrived at the dealer at around 4:30 pm. The rude receptionist from the service department asked me my last name and proceeded to look for the paperwork of my vehicle. Earlier that day a man named, Shafeel stated that the vehicle was going to be ready by 4:30 pm that day. This is after, I turned down the major servicing because of the bad quality of service. The receptionist then went into the service garage and talked to Shafeel. She then told me that 10 more minutes was necessary. Okay I stated. After waiting for around 20 more minutes I asked her if there was another update, she proceed to go to the back again and talked to Shafeel. She came back and said that she still does not have the paperwork and that she needs it to complete everything. 5 more minutes and Shafeel came out and greeted me. He showed me the invoice for the fall special. The fall special was completed and one recall was completed as well. The most important recall that I was promised it would be completed was not completed because parts were ordered. Shafeel gave me the total amount for the day and said I would have to book another appointment for the outstanding recall. I stated no, I will not have servicing in this dealership. He said ok. I checked the invoice for the sake of it only. Please note that I have several cracks on my windshield and other dealerships have stated that I needed to change it soon. However, this time the vehicle report card said my windshield was "good". This just shows how bad everything is in this dealership. I am not sure if they actually changed the oil or did anything for that matter. I was mad at the time and just wanted to get out of there so I went and grabbed my car. The inside was slightly more dirty, the clock was reset and they left complimentary Bluetooth headphones. Thank you Northstar Hyundai for the horrible experience I will most definitely never give you another try. Sad because my recall has to be completed by another Hyundai dealer but I rather die than go to your dealership. FYI the headphones were not enough for the horrible experience and the extra time I need to fix your mistake. More
