I purchased my 2017 Hyundai Elantra GL new from Bannister Hyundai Kamloops and also paid $2,761.50 for Hyundai’s extended warranty (8 years / 160,000 km) back in 2017. All scheduled maintenance was completed Hyundai Kamloops and also paid $2,761.50 for Hyundai’s extended warranty (8 years / 160,000 km) back in 2017. All scheduled maintenance was completed at this dealership as required. Shortly after 100,000 km—while the extended warranty was still active—the vehicle began experiencing serious issues including excessive oil consumption, stalling, loss of power, warning lights, and unstable engine operation. The vehicle now requires frequent oil refilling under normal city driving. Despite these ongoing issues, I was repeatedly told the oil consumption was “within standards” and that no warranty coverage applied. After multiple diagnostic appointments, I was told they couldn’t find the issue and that there was nothing they could do. Hyundai has since reinforced its position that these conditions are considered normal. Compounding the issue, I was incorrectly told on multiple occasions that my extended warranty had already expired when it had not. As a result, I paid thousands of dollars out of pocket for diagnostics and repairs that should have been reviewed under the coverage I paid for. A goodwill engine replacement request was submitted (as the Fixed Operations Manager agreed this was very unusual for a car of this age) and declined, and Hyundai has refused to reimburse the unused extended warranty. If this level of oil consumption and engine behaviour is considered normal for a well-maintained vehicle just over 100,000 km, that is information customers deserve to know before purchasing a Hyundai or paying extra for an extended warranty. So far, Hyundai has not provided any meaningful resolution. I am still open to resolving this directly, but based on my experience, I would caution others to ask very detailed questions about oil consumption, engine longevity expectations, and warranty coverage before purchasing here. After reading the latest review, I felt I had to post my experience, as well. I dealt with Kade, who I found great as a salesman. Very accommodating in terms of test driving and communication via text/visit experience, as well. I dealt with Kade, who I found great as a salesman. Very accommodating in terms of test driving and communication via text/visits. No issues at all with Kade, I'd be happy to deal with him again. My struggle comes from surprise additional costs. I was in early stages of negotiating on a 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe that they had in stock. They were great at negotiating extras (I buy a tow package, they throw in tires and rims) without headache - seemed quite reasonable. As we got closer to "finalizing" a price, the quote came in with around $5000 in additional costs, scattered around the quote, without a lot of description as to what they were for. Kade was fantastic in defining them for me, but the fact those extra charges showed up as an automatic left a sour taste. I fully expect there to be additional charges, it's to be expected, but $5000 was exorbitant, in my humble opinion. Full transparency, Kade did take about $1100 worth of those additional charges off after I asked some questions, but that leaves $3900 in extras, before I even sat down to discuss extended warranty and extra protection on the vehicle that typically comes when you finalize the financing/sale. It didn't help, either, that I was verbally quoted $1100 for the tow hitch, but then officially quoted $1357 as the wiring wasn't mentioned initially. This transaction just didn't feel good. I understand the need to capitalize on and maximize a deal, and fully expected to have to do some hard negotiating, but this just felt over the top. In comparison, I went to Kamloops Kia and closed a deal on a 2023 Sorento with a couple of small additional charges appearing on the quote. They then attempted to add sales to the final cost through extended warranties, pre-payed services and vehicle protection, but there was just nothing that was gratuitous or pressured. It was up front and presented as extra sale, rather than just tacked on to a quote/bill. Felt sneaky. Felt like the way car dealerships are fairly or unfairly "demonized". Transparency is important, and I that just didn't seem to happen here. Wasn't horrendous, people were nice, but I certainly won't be back. Please don't mistake this review as a knock on Kade, I would happily deal with him again in a different environment, this most likely has more to do with dealership practice/pressure. More
I went in a few weeks ago to buy a 2024 Santa Fe. I knew I wanted to come home and look over the number and would return the next day. The salesman, Connor, was helpful but when he went went back to I knew I wanted to come home and look over the number and would return the next day. The salesman, Connor, was helpful but when he went went back to the sales manager, he returned with a sheet with the biweekly payments rather than total price (red flag one). Once home, I worked out the total purchase price based on the interest rates and they had quoted me TWENTY THOUSAND DOLLARS over what the MSRP and tax should have been. I went back in a few days later as the next closest dealership is at least 2 hours away and kamloops had the exact car I wanted. I showed them the math and told them it was unacceptable, which is when a different salesmanager apologized and said he would get me a fair quote. The next quote was closer to what I would expect but still had $3200 dollars worth of extra dealer charges over the quotes from the Hyundai website. I also was looking for a hitch to be purchased too, the website quote $870ish with installation included, kamloops told me that was just the hitch price and with installation it would be $1400. My trade was the last straw, I did my research, similar vehicles with similar milage were selling to the public for 12-14k, they offered me 3k. I know it needed a little body work and I would have settled on 6 or 7k but 3k was insanely low. At another point they had double quoted me for car mats and "forgotten" to lower the tax bracket as the PST changes depending on the price of the vehicle. Instead, I made the trek to the lower mainland, bought my new Santa Fe for MSRP, one admin fee and taxes, recieved 7k for my trade and had a much better experience than anything I experienced at Kamloops. If you need to deal with this dealership, do your own math, know the prices and values and be prepared to double check absolutely everything. I would avoid them at all costs. More
Kade Albiston was very easy to deal with. I inquired about a vehicle but I'd like to purchase. Everything went very smoothly as far as the paper work. The worst customer service I have ever had. My engine seized and was under recall. It took their recall center 7 months to give an okay to replace the engine. The wrong paperwork was sent in. N My engine seized and was under recall. It took their recall center 7 months to give an okay to replace the engine. The wrong paperwork was sent in. No one returned my calls. I was NOT offered a courtesy car. Mistake after mistake was made. When my car was ready for pick up it was unwashed after.sitting in their lot for 7 months. And damage had been done to my front bumper while in their lot? So they have offered to replace it? I was offered ZERO compensation for the inconvenience they caused. Taryn was their one shining star who tried to smooth things over. However I feel I was treated terribly. I will never deal with them again. Worst customer service I have ever had!! More
First things first I want to say that I had heard rumors about this dealership. BAD NEWS. Basically to avoid dealing with them at all costs because of how terrible they are. THIS WAS WRONG. I took my car i about this dealership. BAD NEWS. Basically to avoid dealing with them at all costs because of how terrible they are. THIS WAS WRONG. I took my car into the service department because it was having problems starting consistently. I was greeted with friendly and helpful staff. I addressed my concerns, and what I thought the problem might be. They promptly ordered the parts I needed, did the work in a reasonable time frame. Overall a great experience and I will defiantly be going back to them if another problem shows up. More
If there was a lower rating I would utilize it. Horrible experience. The sales pitch was not at all what I drove away with and now of course I can not get a single person to call me back. Had the worst experience I’ve ever had with any business ever. I needed the heater fixed on my Elantra, and over the course of two months, three trips to the dealership, and nearly $1000 later my heater was ever. I needed the heater fixed on my Elantra, and over the course of two months, three trips to the dealership, and nearly $1000 later my heater was finally fixed in the most unprofessional manner ever. After the first trip to the dealership, the microphone for my hands free calling in my car was suddenly no longer working (keep in mind this was less than a year after it was installed on my vehicle). This was brought to the attention of the service department but they denied any accountability or responsibility for their actions. Upon having the microphone fixed at Stereo Warehouse, a great local business that actually knows how to look after its customers, I was given the old cable which was ripped in half. I brought the evidence up to Hyundai where they again, denied any accountability or responsibility for their actions. I could not recommend this business less, full of absolutely incompetent morons. 0 Stars, buyer beware. More
