I've been buying Elantras and servicing them at Guelph Hyundai for nearly 10 years. I like to take my car to the people who know it best for scheduled maintenance -- not to mention for something ma Guelph Hyundai for nearly 10 years. I like to take my car to the people who know it best for scheduled maintenance -- not to mention for something major -- so it's essential for me to have a local dealer with a reliable service dept. While I've been quite satisfied in the past, and thus do not want to overblow this complaint, just since last fall I've noticed the service dept. getting aggressive in trying to sell extra-to-factory-scheduled maintenance. We're talking procedures of dubious value that in 35 yrs of owning cars I've never had done before to any car, some I had never heard of: cleaning corrosion from hubs, cleaning throttle body, cleaning corrosion from battery terminals, power flush of fuel injectors. Because I had built up trust for the service staff, I went along with this a couple times, but now it seems to be a pattern. Because this style represents a sudden change -- at least in my experience -- I wonder whether it reflects a new management policy which the service staff simply have to carry out. There is a risk, of course, of alienating customers who don't like the feeling of being upsold, don't like having to figure out on the spot whether something is truly needed or a costly "frill",and/or don't have the budget to spend $200 when they thought they were coming for a simple oil change. Now that I see the pattern, I will probably continue coming while resisting the upselling. If I get tired of that, I'll have to go elsewhere. Maybe I'm naive and everybody does this now.
