Unbelievable disrespect from the "Manager" - One week ago (23-Mar) I visited “Courtesy Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM” in the Calgary Auto Mall just off of Glenmore Trail SE and test-drove 2 different - One week ago (23-Mar) I visited “Courtesy Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM” in the Calgary Auto Mall just off of Glenmore Trail SE and test-drove 2 different vehicles. I wanted to return with my father to look at a Jeep Patriot, and understand that in order for a dealer to not show a vehicle to other potential buyers that a deposit can sometimes be required. I asked if I could leave a deposit on the Patriot until I could return to have my dad look over the vehicle. I asked if the deposit was refundable and was told yes, so I paid a $500 deposit on the 23rd of March. That same evening, I returned with my father to have a look at the Patriot, and after thinking about it, decided I really wanted an Escape, as this was the vehicle I had been driving up to this point. The sales person was able to find an Escape that had just come in (hadn’t been cleaned or had an inspection yet), so we agreed that we would return to test drive this new Escape, once the vehicle was ready. - On Saturday March 26th, my father and I returned to test drive the new Escape and have a look over the vehicle. There were some concerns, and I wanted to still do some more looking around before deciding to go ahead with this big of a purchase. The salesperson insisted in asking what he could do to stop us from shopping elsewhere and purchase this vehicle today, but we left as we had more vehicles to look at, and agreed that we would be in touch on Monday. - On Monday March 28th, the salesperson called me and asked if their Escape was still in the running, and that it would hurt his feelings if it wasn’t. I explained that I was going to be shopping around some more on Wednesday, and he advised that he would “let me keep looking” and be in touch by the end of the week. - Today (March 30th) I did in fact continue my car shopping, and found a vehicle that I was really happy with. At this point I returned to “Courtesy Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM” at about 2pm to obtain my $500 deposit back. I waited while the salesperson phoned the finance person, and was then told that they “cannot reverse a debit transaction” and that a cheque would be issued. I asked why that wasn’t explained when the deposit was taken and the salesperson had no answer. I asked to speak to a manager. The manager cam over and said that it was their policy to refund by cheque. At this point I was extremely frustrated at the lack of respect and explained that this should be clearly communicated at the time the deposit is taken from the customer. The manager said he couldn’t go back in time and so it wasn’t his problem. In my frustration I said that I wasn’t leaving until my debit card was refunded or they gave me cash (I have never heard of a debit machine without the capability of reversing funds), and the manager pointed to the lounge and told me to help myself, and that they were open until 9pm. I walked to the lounge and had a sit and called my dad. I decided that if they weren’t going to give me a refund in the method I asked for, that I would take the manager’s business card and leave. After the manager finished a phone call I tried to explain why I was frustrated by their “policy” and lack of communication, and he interrupted me saying that I was being “very confrontational” and had been nothing but rude to him. I explained that I wasn’t confrontational, but was extremely frustrated at how he was treating me as a potential customer. I asked for his business card and a copy of this deposit “policy”. He said that his business cards cost money and he would not waste one by giving me money, and also that there was no policy to show me about the refund-ability of a deposit. He then told me that if I didn’t leave the property he would call the police. I truly have no words for the utter disrespect and attempt at humiliating myself in front of those present, when all I was asking for was the deposit that I had paid. I will never set foot in any Chrysler business again. More
