Courtenay Mazda responded

Thank you for taking the time to write your review. Courtenay Mazda participates in the Dealer Rater Certified Dealer Program. We are committed to providing high quality customer service, but based on your Dealer Rater review, you did not share that experience. You have indicated that the process of valuing your trade at Courtenay Mazda did not meet your expectations. We feel our policy of offering trade values only when we physically see and drive a trade is beneficial to both you and Courtenay Mazda. It ensures that everyone has all the information before about purchasing a vehicle- you purchasing a new vehicle, and us purchasing your trade. If we had we done an appraisal without seeing the vehicle, we could have errantly given it a higher than market value then what it was worth when you brought it to the dealership. This would result in your disappointment with us because you would feel we had lured you in with a false value. We don’t believe in those tactics, and we only were looking out for your best interests by asking to see the trade in person. We really do want to provide the best value to you for your trade, and of course, that means we need to see the vehicle in person to appraise it properly. If we do not see the vehicle in person, we value trades quite conservatively (because of the unknowns) and this is also not the best value for you. You would have only been disappointed because you would have felt we were under valuing your trade, and you wouldn’t want to deal with us because of the low trade value given the value was for a vehicle sight unseen. As you can see from both standpoints, it is a double-edged sword. Having the vehicle in the presence of the purchaser and seller is the most fair and equitable to all parties involved. Despite the fact that we did not see your trade, we did offer a retail market analysis to give you a range of prices based on an appraisal. We value our client’s insights into improving their time at our store, and this forum offers our clients an opportunity to show us how they feel about their experiences, and what we need to do to ensure we remain the number one Mazda Dealership in Canada. If you would like the opportunity to discuss any of the above items, do not hesitate to contact me at 250-338-5777, where we can book an appointment to sit in person. Corey Sawchuk.
