after reaching my car in my driveway - having to shovel it out and pull it out - chained to f150 i noticed green patches of snow from under my car. logically these green patches of snow would seem to ind it out and pull it out - chained to f150 i noticed green patches of snow from under my car. logically these green patches of snow would seem to indicate the cooling system is leaking coolant from somewhere. On a Friday I brought my car to airport ford and advised them of the green patches of snow and advising them i realized that there were green patches of snow under my car and stated " I would imagine these green patches of snow are likely a coolant leak. Im sure its probably something I did because i did try and plow the car very quickly through a long drive way with a lot of snow, and it seems to me that cold snow against hot cooling system is probably a recipe for disaster regardless of what it is just fix it and hand me the bill and i will pay it off right away" When Ralph approached me after "inspection" he assured me that there was nothing wrong with cooling system. Unsettled with this answer I decided to drive over an hour out of town to Waterloo and have a 2nd opinion given to me by Good Guyz Garage (our trusted and reputable family mechanic of over 20 years without issue) to see what really was wrong with the car. Fast forward to Monday morning when on my way to bring car to Good Guyz Garage in the thick of rush hour in the dark @ hwy 6 getting onto hwy 401 on my way to Good Guyz Garage I stepped on the gas a little harder near the end of the ramp to accelerate a little to safely merge with traffic. Upon doing this I was greeted with a loud bang followed by what looked to be a cloud of smoke so thick that i could no longer see the person tailgating me any more. I immediately made an emergency stop on the shoulder of the hwy - without merging with traffic and came to the realization that the smoke was coming from under my hood. The smoke got thicker and much darker causing me to believe my car may be on fire. I popped the hood got out of the car and on my way to the front of the car noticed a fluid dripping that I couldn't identify the color of the leaking fluid - but clearly it had the consistency to possibly be gasoline. after waiting over 45 minutes for fire department and ride to show - middle of February freezing my xxx off - finally get it towed to Good Guyz Garage. While inspecting the vehicle they performed a cooling system pressure test. Good Guyz Garage had informed me that the cooling system pressure test had to be done in order to accurately tell where it is leaking. Interestingly enough when i looked at the invoice from airport ford - no such cooling system test had been done and more interesting when they did the test it immediately identified the cause of the smoke which ironically was the cause of the green snow - they advised me that my frost caps in the block heater were rotting out from age - and that when greeted by the bang followed by the cloud of smoke that it in fact was the result of 1 of these frost caps 'rotting away enough to finally blow open and spew coolant all over the electrical components of the engine' In the end I had to drop a whopping $876 taxes and labor included at Good Guyz Garage to replace the now destroyed block heater and repair the electrical system in the engine because cheaper to repair then to replace. Whats worse is that Good Guyz Garage also informed me that it would have only cost a mere $226to replace these frost caps before this happened - 1 of many horror stories from airport ford stay tuned for my next installment - airport fords denial of passing a vehicle for safety with an unsafe frame unsafe suspension and a faulty transmission safety switch - that severely endangered the safe operation of the vehicle and on 2/22/2010 almost killed me.
