But one of the reasons I bought this car is because it qualifies for the $7,500 Federal tax credit, and when it came time to settle up I said I wanted to pay cash. I was told I could not pay cash if I wanted to get the tax credit, but needed to finance or lease the car. 72 months at almost 9%. Chris in finance told me I could pay it off, but had to make at least five payments. That's still hundreds in interest over 5 months, but with the credits I still had a great price, so I signed the paperwork and drove away in my new EV. When the finance paperwork came three weeks later and I registered for the online finance portal, I immediately saw a button that said "Get your current payoff quote " I clicked it and three more clicks and five minutes later I had paid off the car. So that five payment minimum was complete xx. I still paid almost $200 in interest. And why couldn't I have paid cash initially? I felt taken advantage of. I was either lied to or someone higher up told the staff at the dealership something that just isn't true. More
