Disclaimer: This review is not about Lexus as a brand. I love Lexus vehicles and have owned Toyota Land Cruisers in the past. This review is about my experience with OpenRoad Lexus Richmond and how they handled the sale of a vehicle.
***STAY AWAY FROM OPENROAD LEXUS RICHMOND - THEY ARE SCAMMERS– My Experience as an Out-of-Town Buyer*******
I live in Calgary and had been searching for a 2025 Lexus LX 600, which is a very hard vehicle to find. Wait times are typically 1–2 years, and there were none available in Calgary or Edmonton. I found a low-kilometre LX 600 (12,000 km, no accidents or claims according to Carfax) at OpenRoad Lexus Richmond.
I dealt with a salesperson named Oscar, who was very helpful initially. Because I was an out-of-town buyer, I repeatedly asked him to send me a clear, detailed walk-around video showing the vehicle and pointing out any imperfections, just as if he were buying the vehicle himself.
Here is what happened:
I was told another buyer from Vancouver Island was interested, and I should place a $1,000 refundable deposit to hold the vehicle until my in-person inspection.
I almost sold my 2023 BMW X7 before travelling but fortunately decided to keep it until I saw the LX in person.
Oscar finally sent me a clearer video the day before my flight, and based on that video I was almost certain I was buying the vehicle.
I flew from Calgary to Vancouver, spent about $700 on flights, took a day off work, and arrived at the dealership at 9:30 a.m. expecting to drive my dream SUV home.
After being taken to the vehicle by the delivery specialist, Amey, I immediately noticed a dent on the left side of the hood. This damage had never been disclosed, shown in the videos, or mentioned during any conversation.
When I pointed it out, Amey's first reaction was essentially, "That's a big dent. Weren't you aware of it?" I told her I had never been informed.
The sales manager, Mayson, then came over and offered discounts and promised the dent could be repaired in a couple of hours if I completed the purchase. But by that point, the issue was no longer the dent—it was trust.
I declined the deal, requested my deposit back, and flew home to Calgary without the vehicle.
Why I'm Leaving This Review
This is a $133,000 vehicle. As an out-of-town buyer, I relied on the dealership to honestly disclose the condition of the vehicle before I spent time and money travelling.
Whether the dent was an oversight or not, it should have been clearly communicated before I boarded a flight. Instead, I discovered it only after arriving at the dealership.
I cannot recommend OpenRoad Lexus Richmond based on this experience. If you're buying from outside the Lower Mainland, I would encourage you to inspect the vehicle very carefully and ensure every imperfection is documented before you travel.
For me, trust is everything when purchasing a vehicle, especially one at this price point. Unfortunately, this experience left me without that trust.
