I purchased a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited for $11,000 privately from Sabby Gujral, an automotive salesperson employed by Parkland CDJR. Yes, this was a private sale. However, Parkland became involved when General Manager Troy Sorge contacted me directly about the situation. Before buying the Jeep, Sabby told me there was nothing mechanically wrong with it and that he had owned it for approximately 2.5 years. The very next morning, the Jeep lost power and the check-engine light came on with codes P0300, P0303 and P0456. I later received diagnostic information indicating the codes had been cleared approximately 620 km earlier. I'm now paying $698 just to properly diagnose the Jeep and could potentially be facing $6,000–$10,000 in repairs, depending on the final diagnosis. Then I learned something else. Troy told me Sabby actually acquired the Jeep on July 17—not approximately 2.5 years earlier. Troy later wrote to me: “Did he stretch the truth to sell his personal vehicle to you? Absolutely I can see he did as the timing doesn't line up.” Those are his words, not mine. Troy also contacted me by phone, spoke with Sabby, told me not to contact Sabby while he dealt with the situation and eventually proposed that Sabby pay me $1,000 to resolve it. I declined. There is also a dispute about what I was told regarding the cleared diagnostic codes. My recollection of my September 25 conversation with Troy is different from what he subsequently put in writing. Rather than arguing about who remembers the conversation correctly, I have formally requested that Parkland preserve and provide the recorded calls. Their phone system advises callers that calls are recorded. The recording can establish exactly what was said. My position with Sabby remains simple: Return my $11,000 and take the Jeep back, or pay the full documented cost to properly repair it once the diagnosis is complete. Had I known how recently Sabby had acquired the Jeep and known about the mechanical problems I'm now dealing with, I would not have purchased it. I tried to resolve this privately. At this point, I'm documenting everything and will be providing the relevant information to AMVIC for independent review and pursuing the appropriate consumer and civil avenues available to me. I'm not claiming Parkland sold me the Jeep. They didn't. I'm sharing my experience because one of their automotive salespeople sold it to me privately and their General Manager subsequently became directly involved in trying to resolve the situation. I have the emails, messages, payment documentation and diagnostic information, and I've requested the recorded telephone conversations. People can read the facts and make their own judgment. I know they have had a really bad name but I decided to give them another chance with my vehicles since I was aware they have gone through a number of changes. My bad I guess. I brought my truck to Parkland Chrysler for a manifold leak and Hemi tick. I even sourced and supplied my own upgraded header and bolts to ensure the job was done right. What I got back was a $2,377 bill for work that nearly destroyed my engine. After picking up my truck, the tick was still there and the engine light was still on. I was told not to worry about it. I drove it back to work in Grande Prairie, and the engine progressively got louder, lost power, and started burning fuel. The truck was barely driveable by the time I arrived. I had a Grande Prairie dealership inspect it. When they opened it up, they told me it was one of the worst jobs they had seen — and that they would never have let a vehicle leave their shop in that condition. The header had separated from the block, the bolts were not properly torqued, and a heat shield that is required before installing the header was never installed. Because of that, all the wiring near the manifolds had melted and now needs to be replaced. I have photos to back every word of this up. That repair is going to cost me another $1,500 — on top of what I already paid Parkland to do the job right the first time. When I contacted the service manager, Trina Dalton, she was condescending, repeatedly cut me off, and essentially called me a liar. She compared a $2,300 header job to changing tires. Then she told me it was my fault for not reading the fine print on the invoice — where they quietly noted recommendations they never verbally communicated or followed up on — and said they would not be taking any responsibility because I had supplied aftermarket parts. Their technician did the work. Their technician failed to torque the bolts. Their technician skipped a required installation step that melted my wiring. None of that is on the parts I supplied. If you value your vehicle, your wallet, or being treated like an adult, go somewhere else. I dealt with the service department and received prompt and courteous service. I was able to get my vehicle booked for next day (fully expecting them to be booking a week or two ahead).
