I came in this morning to have my car serviced. My service advisor was Harpreet Dhaddwal. I was very impressed with the excellent service he provided. He came up to assist me as soon as i entered the garage. He took care of all of the car's needs and arranged for an Uber driver to shuttle me to my workplace. At the end of the day, he called me to arrange a shuttle pickup. I really felt like a VIP today. Harpreet Dhaddwal made everything very easy and pleasant with his thorough professionalism. Booked appointment for my wife’s Genesis re free warranty items plus tire change, Safety Standards Certificate and GPS update. Lincoln said the car also required front-end alignment, but couldn’t do GPS upda items plus tire change, Safety Standards Certificate and GPS update. Lincoln said the car also required front-end alignment, but couldn’t do GPS update unless I proved it was a warranted item. Invoice showed only the paid services, (tire change, Safety Standards Certificate and front-end alignment) had been done, but none of the free warranty services. Lincoln said he could do them with the GPS update once I showed him the GPS warranty. He gave me a card with his cell number and asked to call him as soon as I found out, which I did after getting home. When I called him he was busy, but said he’d call back after talking to his manager. Not having received a return call by mid-afternoon, my wife and I drove to the dealership, where Mr. Mughal, the Genesis Service Manager, sat next to Lincoln and was already aware of the issue. He cut me off in mid-sentence, refused to even look at the warranty and forcefully declared that the dealership didn’t do GPS updates with the agreement of Head Office. Yet during five years of ownership my wife was never informed about it nor how to do it. Asked about completing the free warranty items skipped that morning (oil and cabin filter change), Mr. Mughal and the booking desk said they had no time slots available prior to the April 27 warranty expiry. He suggested that we’d simply have to pay for those items ourselves if unable to find another Genesis dealer to accommodate us, which he said would be unlikely due to the busy tire change season. When we pointed out that the car was brought in for a booked appointment and that it wasn’t our fault the free items had been skipped, he said that this was unfortunate but could not be helped. Considering the circumstances and Mr. Mughal’s increasingly truculent attitude when confronted with the absurdity of the situation, my wife decided to pay for the skipped services elsewhere, as by now she was afraid of what might happen to her car if she pursued the matter. When I started to tell him about her decision, he cut me off, stood up as if to escort us out, and in front of several service advisors and customers loudly and mockingly exclaimed, “thank you for your business and good bye, thank you for your business and good bye”. If there is a surveillance system inside that location, the camera will undoubtedly show a scene that everyone looking for a managerial or Customer Service position should be forced to view. I’m sure Mississauga Hyundai and Genesis Canada will not miss losing my wife as a customer. But I’m confident that more customers will switch to other dealerships and/or brands unless Mr. Mughal is motivated to learn something about dealing with customers and customer service issues. The Genesis GPS Warranty Statement “Keep your vehicle’s advanced navigation system up-to-date with complimentary annual updates. Map updates will be provided at ‘No Charge’ for 5 years / 100,000 km whichever comes first. Customers will have the option of either downloading the updated software directly or having the updates done by your distributor in conjunction with your scheduled maintenance. Includes up to 2 updates per year (maximum of 10 updates). Re Front-End Alignment According to this dealership’s drive-over sensor, the car already required a front-end alignment at 14,809 km and again at 18,704 km. My wife is a very careful driver and never had an accident or so much as a scratch on any of her vehicles. The Lexus and Infiniti she owned prior to her Genesis did not require front-end alignments during her ownership of those cars. When Mississauga Hyundai was first asked why such a well-engineered car as the Genesis would require this service so early on, they replied that they would investigate, but we never heard back from them.
