How to start? Oh ya, Never buy a vehicle from Don How to start? Oh ya, Never buy a vehicle from Don Wheaton Chevrolet Buick in Edmonton. After 3 hour drive from Calgary to Edmonton to purchase a 201 How to start? Oh ya, Never buy a vehicle from Don Wheaton Chevrolet Buick in Edmonton. After 3 hour drive from Calgary to Edmonton to purchase a 2015 Nissan Frontier, I should have walked away when the truck I purchased needed a boost to start. Then upon inspection of vehicle especially under the hood it looked like it’s never been cleaned since new, but we were assured by the salesman Corey that the vehicle had been fully detailed was another sign I should have walked away. Any kind of holder including center consul, rear storage and in between the seats looked like an entire daycare went through there eating cookies. Horrible mess, but I was assured the vehicle was fully detailed by Corey. Back to under the hood, Corey had again assured us the vehicle had some work done to it and showed us the work order along with maintenance checklist, all looked perfect on paper. I checked the air filter which showed as acceptable and ok. Last time I checked an air filter that was black in colour it wasn’t ok and needed replacing, even the air box in which it sat is so full of crap I had to clean it out. Then they didn’t have an air filter so they discounted the truck by $50.00. One of the tire air pressure sensors was on, Corey, says we’ll check it out and said one tire was low on air, so they filled it up. Guess what? Tire pressure sensor is still on. I hit the road back to Calgary when I make a stop in Red deer and noticed the rear differential is pissing fluid out of it. I call Don Wheaton , they told me to get a tow and call warranty hotline. I have only owned the truck for one and half hours!!!! I asked to speak to a manager at this point who I found very uncooperative and tried to blame me or the vehicle for the rear end. He said it probably heated up and that’s why it was leaking. I explained that his shop tech #526 hand scraped it, resealed it and applied the Don Wheaton OK. A local lube shop jumped into action while Don Wheaton crew were playing blame game. They fixed me up and had me on my way within a couple hours. The bill was paid by Don Wheaton and crew eventually but not until I had to convince them to. Next was key fob, assured by Corey it just needed batteries. I replaced the batteries and it still doesn’t work, thanks Corey. All in all, I would not recommend anyone ever buy a vehicle from Don Wheaton. Now I expect the typical reply and zero action: “Hi there, we apologize for your frustrations during your experience with us. We always strive for the highest level of customer service, and we appear to have fell short on this.” My question is, how many times are you going to “fall short” before you implement any kind of changes that would guarantee a good sale? WAKE UP! More
Short Story: Dishonest in Negotiation Process Long Short Story: Dishonest in Negotiation Process Long Story: We came in to see about a Dodge Ram 1500 that was on Auto Trader. My wife and I were ver Short Story: Dishonest in Negotiation Process Long Story: We came in to see about a Dodge Ram 1500 that was on Auto Trader. My wife and I were very clear with the sales person Sean Burnes that we didn't want to waste his time or ours. We test drove the vehicle and really liked it. We sat down and an offer was written by them, we countered, they came back with a different offer and then we left as it was closing time (the whole time Sean had our credit card so us as professional 50 year olds could prove we were serious). I wrote down on paper that I was prepared to buy the vehicle at $41, 000 and they wanted $41,500 (with their financing) and a price of $42, 250 if I paid cash. I was very clear we would not use their financing as they could not match my banks rate. I texted Sean the next morning and asked to put the vehicle on hold and offered my credit card to hold it. I took the day off of work and spoke to my bank, got insurance lined up, etc and then contacted the dealership about the deal. We were literally a couple hundred dollars apart when I got a text from Sean saying that a CASH deal would no longer be accepted and the only way I could buy the vehicle was if I financed through them. He said one of the managers interfered and demanded a financed deal. Of course they receive kickbacks for this but I have never heard of such nonsense as not being able to pay in cash. The next day I still had not talked to Sean and became frustrated so I called the service manager Donegan Macdonald and explained the situation. Surprise surprise Sean Burns had not even been at work the past two days because he was ill and the manager had no idea about the whole cash/no cash deal. Donegan agreed he would take cash.......yeah progress! Or so I thought. I asked Donegan to call me back with the cash offer they would accept (he did not call back I had to call him). In the mean time Sean starts texting again saying $42,0000 will "probably" get it done. Huh? Is probably the offer? I call the sales manager back. Donegan very casually lets me know that the vehicle I thought was on hold has sold! They were simply still talking to me because they could use me as a back up offer. I was super upset how everything had been handled and Donegan told me that he felt I was overreacting and that a mistake had been made. A mistake?! Lying about the cash deal not being accepted, taking back a written offer from the Wednesday evening, selling a vehicle that I thought was held, texting me and acting as though you are at work with the managers when they had no idea what you were saying and the sales manager not returning my phone call is more than one mistake. In tough economic times when businesses are screaming for business (according to Sean they are a month away from everyone being unemployed) we were simply trying to buy a vehicle. The way we were treated makes me feel like I need to take a shower and wash really well as the whole experience was dirty and greasy. I am 50 years old and have never written a negative review in my life. First time for everything I guess. Please take your hard earned money elsewhere and don't support the circus that is happening at Don Wheaton. Thank you to Sean Burnes and Donegan Macdonald for making this whole experience so awful.
