On May 06 2025, I ended a twenty month ordeal with Subaru of Hamilton when my 2014 Forester,(roughly 117,000 km) which had been serviced almost exclusively (except for times I had oil changes done at a Toyota dealership that was closer to where I live, with the dealership‘s OK) at the SoH dealership.
My vehicle’s transmission stopped working and was towed to the Hamilton dealership on September 06, 2023 and sat on their lot for roughly six hundred days while I tried to work out an arrangement to have it repaired.
I dealt with Subaru Canada as well as with Cesare at the dealership. Cesare told me about how in cases like this an arrangement could be made where each party (Subaru Canada, the dealer and myself) would pay a third of the cost to have the car repaired. I told Cesare that this sounded fair and we shook hands on it. Cesare asked for some time to make the arrangements and said he would call me when he was finished doing so. After waiting for about two weeks, I called back and was told that Cesare was no longer employed by the dealership and so our deal was no longer applicable.
After Cesare’s departure I started to deal with a guy named Brian and he and I communicated many times about this vehicle with no satisfaction reached for either of us. After many months of inaction I became so frustrated that I wanted nothing more to do with this dealership. Craving some kind of closure, my wife decided to call Brian to see if she could break the impasse and come to an arrangement. At this point Brian told her that the car was no longer good for anything but scrap and that he would buy it from us for 500 dollars. He also said that if we didn’t want to sell we would have a week to remove the car from the lot or he would begin to charge us storage fees.
Of course, there are many details that I have not included in this review for the sake of brevity.
Long story short, I would have given zero stars to Subaru of Hamilton if that were an option. As a senior, I feel very much taken advantage of by this dealership. I will never buy another Subaru (obviously) and I could never recommend Subaru of Hamilton to anyone else after the disdainful treatment that I have received there.
If you are considering a purchase of a vehicle at this dealership I would just say one thing, let the buyer beware.
