While there I sat on a new bike I really liked but I had zero intention of buying a new bike at all. Ryan came along and asked if we needed any help. He was personable and not pushy. I decided to ask him some questions about the new bike I liked. He was knowledgeable and helpful. He came back with an excellent price and told us about a great offer from Yamaha. He was respectful and gave us the space to make some decisions and talk about it and was ready to help when we asked. In the end the combination of his excellent customer service and finding the perfect bike for me in their expansive inventory made the decision to buy new that day a pleasant and easy one. One of the most positive buying experiences I’ve ever had with anything!! I would recommend Ryan, Mike, and the team at Open Road to anyone!! They will be our first stop for bike or recreation vehicles as well as anything to go with that from now on!! More

Sit back and enjoy the tale of the demonized boat. Lets start with the buying experience. I arrived one sunny day in August (I know what you're thinking, what kind of idiot buys a boat in August) with my wife and 3 young kids in tow from Moose Jaw. The kids jump out of the truck and run over to the line of ATV's and start jumping on and off them pretending they are riding them. My wife and I are both embarrassed that our kids are acting like xxxxxxx that just escaped from the zoo. Ryan strolls up and greets us and starts asking the kids if they like the ATV's. My oldest son says, "Dad we need two of these". I said, "They're 12 grand each, get off!". Ryan laughed and said it wasn't a problem and they couldn't hurt them. So we get to business, I tell him we're thinking of a boat. He takes us over to used boats in our price range and again the kids are now jumping on boats. Ryan again says don't worry they can't hurt them, just as my oldest figured out how to trim down the leg of a yellow bow rider and drives it into the ground. Ryan says well maybe they can and calmly tells him maybe we don't touch that button. Anyways, he told us about the different boats and the features they had. He asked what we did and why we wanted a boat, etc. We then narrowed it down to two boats. Ryan was not pushy and gave my wife and I space to talk, he even watched the kids while we looked over the boats. After a few minutes he told us that he wasn't selling us a boat today even if we wanted to. He said that we had to go home and think it over first. I've bought a lot of things but never had a salesman tell me he wasn't selling me something today. We went home and I continued to text Ryan throughout the evening (it was a Friday at about 8pm). Once I finally got him to give into my demands :) He said we could do the deal and all I had to do was come back to pick it up and sign some paper work. The boat So we pick up the boat and get it home. There it sits in my driveway with 3 kids practice fishing and inviting their friends to come "fishing". Once the weekend finally arrived we haul the boat to the local lake and I had a bit of trouble getting it started. Ryan showed me the starting procedure and I thought well maybe I screwed it up. I called Ryan that evening and he said to bring it in and they'd take a look at it. Turns out the carb needed tuning and there were a few electrical ghosts that needed to get fixed. They kept the boat until Friday and I came and picked it up to get back out on the water. Well get her out on the water and again electrical problems. I call Ryan on Saturday and he again says bring it back, we'll fix it. Now keep in mind this is a used boat and he could've easily said sorry about your luck but he didn't. Eventually we got her going and it was a blast. The boat was everything and more that he had promised. Every weekend we were on the lake with the kids fishing and swimming. Then one faithful weekday, my wife and I decided to sneak out without the kids while they were at school. It was mid September and we were the only ones on the lake. We started out to our usual fishing hole and I notice the bilge light was on. I look over the side and its pushing water out at a very rapid rate. I stop the boat and open the engine compartment to see water shooting everywhere. Turn off the boat and notice that one of the main hoses has blown off. Again I call Ryan, he says bring it in. I told him I'm in the middle of the xxxxx lake, how the xxxx am I supposed to get to shore. We paddled our way back to the launch (luckily we were only about 5 miles out, still sucked though) and I take it in. This time I am not happy. You see since I bought this boat at the beginning of August I had to take it back every Monday, then I would pick it up Friday only to have to take it back to Regina the next Monday. It was now middle to late September so we are talking 6-7 trips back and forth from Moose Jaw to Regina with a boat in tow. I've probably spent more time in tow than I have on the water and spent more in gas than I've run through the boat. Again Ryan promises he will get to the bottom of it. This time they keep the boat for almost 4 months trying to figure it out. One day I called and was told that they had ripped open the motor as they thought it was the head gasket. I was pissed, they had cracked open my motor without even asking me. Needless to say Open Road ate the cost of that. They finally "figured out the problem" just after Christmas. I was out of the province and Ryan offered to drive it to my storage facility just outside Moose Jaw. The next season we get the boat on the water after I've been assured there will be no more problems, and within 5 minutes the hose blows again. I drag the boat off the water and right back to Ryan. It's at this point that if I didn't like my truck, I wouldn't probably driven the stupid boat through their showroom and lit it on fire. I was pissed is an understatement. When I got to the dealership, not one person would even make eye contact with me, everyone scattered except Ryan. He met me with apologies and assured me he'd make it right. It was at this moment where I gained a lot of respect for Ryan. I gave it to him and I gave it good. There were many f bombs and lots of finger pointing. He stood there and let me verbally assault him for almost 15 minutes. His only response, "Steve I'm not going to xxxxxxxx you and tell you it's OK, but I will fix this". This bring me to the Service department I don't know what to say but my experience was less than I expected. Now maybe it's my own fault, you see I'm a 6'3", 225lb military guy and have been told I can be pretty intimidating. My service advisor was Jamie and she was always really nice to me but seemed kind of timid. My biggest issue with the service was I could never really get an answer to what was happening to my boat. I had to call Ryan because he was the only one that would take my calls at this point. He did everything he could to get me answers but it always came down to he was just the sales man and these were service questions. Having said that he would always find me the answers I was looking for and went way above and beyond what any salesman should have to put up with. Ok back to the boat So almost 8 weeks into boating season and I still don't have a boat. At this point they are talking full engine rebuild and they would have to ship the motor out to get it done and that could take weeks. So here I am spent over 20k (I know that's not much for a boat but hey man its 20k) and I am watching the season go by while my boat is out of commission. Bring in Darcy Kunz Darcy is the manager at Open Road. I think I should probably apologize to Darcy because he got the full brunt of my pissed off attitude. I probably called him 2-3 times a day looking for updates. It got to the point when I called the receptionist would say, "Oh hi Steve, Darcy is busy". So naturally I found his cell phone and texted and called until he finally answered. Darcy said they would continue to troubleshoot the boat and would fix it he just didn't have a timeline for me. Well I was getting impatient as we'd already rounded the July 1st weekend and still no boat in sight. He and Ryan finally suggested that I trade the boat in and get into something else. Once again Ryan pulled me over to his office to calm me down from the notion that I should just trade in the boat. So being the passive aggressive jerk I am I entertained the idea and just wanted to see them do a little work. They offered me 18k for my boat on a trade. I almost lost my xxxx. I was asked to take a 2k bath on a xxx that hadn't worked from the day I bought it. This is where Ryan stepped up again. He told me to go home and he'd take care of it. A few days later Ryan calls me up and says come on in I want to show you something. I go to Regina AGAIN, and he shows me a 2014 Yamaha AR190 in mint condition. I laughed at him. The boat was $35,999. Long story short after an absolutely dreadful experience with my first boat purchase I bought a second boat from the place that I wasn't exactly raving about. Now let me be totally clear on this. The only reason I bought the second boat was because of Ryan. Ryan was on my side the entire time, he answered my calls and texts even on his days off. When nobody else would talk to me, he was there. Ryan even got me what I think is a pretty good deal on the new boat (although I'm sure they talk about "the idiot that bought another boat after his first nightmare" around the water cooler. As far as Open Road Recreation goes I have to admit (even thought I don't want to) they did make it right. If I had bought this boat privately I would've been on my own and probably have a very expensive toy for my kids to practice fish off of in my driveway. Instead they gave me the full price of the original boat against the new one. I mean really who does that? The only reason I gave you guys a 4 out of 5 stars is that the communication in the service department could've been better. More
