I made an appointment to test drive a car with John Shoulders via email and clearly stated that I was driving down from Edmonton to do so. John responded: "I've added the appointment to my schedule...in the event the vehicle sells in the meantime I'll let you know of course as that is a real possibility". On the day of the appointment I arrived a few minutes prior to the arranged time and John is nowhere to be found. I was greeted by two other staff who were kind enough to try and locate him. Not only had John already left the dealership, he didn't even bother informing me that the car was no longer available. When I called John to inquire about the missed appointment and lack of communication, John acted confused and served up a buffet of excuses. Of which, I will only mention a few: 1. Denial of correspondence and that the appointment was even made-not the brightest idea when there is an email trail of my interest in the car and for setting the date and time of the appointment. 2. According to John, clients are supposed to call back businesses to "confirm" their appointments, otherwise the appointment is considered null. Really, when did this become the norm? I've never encountered this from any other professional establishment-doctors, dentists or physiotherapists don't no show if clients don't call their offices to ‘confirm appointments’. In fact, well organized professionals follow up with their clients, not the other way around. This is especially true considering John stated in his email: “ in the event the vehicle sells in the meantime I’ll let you know...". Furthermore, I had even ‘confirmed’ by replying: “Look forward to seeing you then...”. 3. Playing the fool. John stated he didn't feel there was a need to let me know the car was no longer available because there is always a potential of listed cars being sold. True. I believe in the phrase 'xxxx happens'. There is potential for anything to happen, its life. However, there is something called probability. Meteorologists don't make blind forecasts and judges don't randomly convict people of crime. If there is a high probability of something occurring, based on facts, a reasonable person can deduce it will. In this case, when a potential buyer puts a deposit on a car and you send the car to the shop to have new tires installed for that buyer (as I was told by the staff who I spoke with at the dealership), that's a pretty good indication the car is sold. Moreover, it is a direct and huge oversight not to inform someone of this when you know they are driving down 150km just to test drive a car. The intention of this review is not to tarnish the reputation of this dealership, as the other staff were pleasant and helpful. If the car is sold, not a problem; that isn’t an issue. At least have some courtesy to let me know, or take ownership of your mistake after the fact. I am solely writing this review based on my experience with John Shoulders. I am truly appalled by the lack of professionalism displayed by someone who is in a managerial position. If you outright abandon an appointment and choose not to write a simple follow up email, don't make it worse by blowing hot air and then denying that this incident is not a testament to your lack of customer service skills (and accountability). Chris was honest, professional, easy to work with, and responded to us quickly regarding the car we were interested in. It was definitely worth the 3 ½ hour drive to Gary Moe Volkswagen to purchase our 2011 Jetta TDI Comfort line from Chris Carriere . The rest of the staff at Gary Moe Volkswagen that we dealt was also very helpful and professional as well. Thanks Chris!! More

Should have saw the red flags right from the beginning. We go into Gary Moe VW and give Rob her must have list, which wasn’t very outlandish. Within the negotiations, all she really wanted/needed was a car starter added to the deal. At first they stated that the European car we wanted wasn’t equipped with having a car starter and if they do, it is very rare. Once they agreed they would install it they called my girlfriend and stated they would not be doing the car starter. These people gave us the story no installer in Red Deer would install it; they must think people don’t check their facts and just believe whatever these two slime-ball’s tell people. Ryan stated he would take off a whopping $500 for the replacement of the car starter. We contacted two installation companies who had no problem installing them; they were actually very experienced in my specific vehicle. Once they were shocked that we did our homework on costs and facts, they magically found a company who would install it. Fast forward to when we took our car in to get the starter installed, they gave us a courtesy vehicle (which was nice), however, we get the vehicle back and my girlfriend notices that there is a crack on the wood trim of the door panel. She does tell me right away and (yes our fault) we don’t call them for five days due to absent minds and an overall busy schedule. Once I call Rob, you can just hear he hates dealing with me as he lets out a big sigh after I tell him what happened. He then responds with “that seems very suspicious you would call five days later” as he is offending me by basically saying we did it ourselves and now want Gary Moe to cover it. No, that’s not the case at all. I state we will be in the next day and conveniently he and Ryan are off that day. Thanks Rob, you could have told me that when we were talking on the phone the day before, instead of waste our time and think you could help us. The other manager takes pictures and states we will get a call the next day but there is probably nothing they can do, a week later, still no call. I call Rob and he said he “doesn’t know what is happening with the cracked trim”, but he will talk to his managers and see what happens. I even go as far as state that I don’t think Gary Moe broke it and I don’t think they should pay for it, I think that the installation company most likely broke it, didn’t say anything and now we are at this point. Rob calls me back and he states “it’s unfortunate you waited 5 days to call and this information is coming from Ryan, but the car you own is prone to the trim expanding and retracting due to sudden change of weather (low -4/high 19 for the 3 days they had car) and there would be no reason for the installer or Gary Moe to take off the door trim”. Rob also states there is nothing they would do. Well thanks Rob/Ryan at Gary Moe Volkswagen, won’t be getting our business in the future. More
Crooked liars Gf bought a used 2 year old car. It was dirty and filthy and hadn't been washed or detailed, so they said they would clean it. Asked about scratches a Gf bought a used 2 year old car. It was dirty and filthy and hadn't been washed or detailed, so they said they would clean it. Asked about scratches and they assured her that they would be taken care of. She went to pick it up and not only were there tons of scratches but the car was missing a wiper. Salesman said it's too bad, can't get rid of the scratches. Now I know there are going to be some imperfections since its used, but don't LIE about fixing something just to get a sale. These guys are a bunch of lying crooks and would never recommend this crap hole to anyone. More

He is very knowledgeable, patient and really took the time to explain all the finer details of the car. He never made us feel we had to rush into this purchase. Ryan Dandurand, General Sales Manager and Cyrena Flury, Business Manager were also involved with our purchase. They both were very helpful and informative. We highly recommend this dealership! More

I recently ordered parts, the parts guy told me he would call me in 3-5 days to let me know they are in, I called back a week and a half later turns out he never ordered them. and the receptiojnist is rude. I called CALGARY NORTHLAND for the parts the parts person actually looked to see where the nearest parts were he had them for me the next day. I will never go back to Red Deer Volkswagon what a joke. It is well worth the drive to go to Calgary the people were much more helpful, Plus the parts I needed were cheaper go figure. More

I would rath I pretty much did everything online while buying my new car. I live up in Grande Prairie and the car dealerships here are just terrible. I would rather fly down to Red Deer and drive back then buy a car in Grande Prairie again. They are all just so awesome. I was welcomed by the sales manager when I got to the dealership by first name, never having spoken or met him before. Made me feel pretty important. The salesman really hooked me up after my accident. He was so knowledgeable about the brand, I'm pretty sure he eats, sleeps and bleeds Volkswagen. More
