I bought a car here at Clarington Toyota (Bowmanville) they owned/regularly serviced and "ontario certified". Weeks later got bunch check engine light/malfunction errors related to safety, took to another they owned/regularly serviced and "ontario certified". Weeks later got bunch check engine light/malfunction errors related to safety, took to another dealership they found missing break parts (according to AI some dealerships apparently throw away small hardware like clips and springs ) well this leads to rattling of break pad Clarington service techs "cant hear". oh and this was all after them doing "full break service" - check google review photos for pics another toyota dealership provided during post-purchase dianosis (made mistake not doing it before). 2) other dealership also noted there were rips in the control arm ..and guess what! other dealership also recommended i do break service due to severe rust buildup (3 weeks after buying and Clarington saying they did full break "work"!!). Also when test driving before buying - There were heavy dip of car on break and bouncing. They dismissed this as normal wear and tear. Now shocks making noise and just replaced shock absorber due to leak. (Found by another dealership). Hopefully others have more positive experience than this at Clarington Toyota!!! Basically before selling, everything is normal wear/aggressively dismissive, but after when go for service, they'll want to DO EVERYTHING and charge you? or they purposely sell defective cars/lemons so people spend a fortune there. I had a frustrating experience with Clarington Toyota and want to caution others. I purchased an Ontario safety certified used vehicle (not Toyota Certified), a detail the dealership failed to explain clearly. The car looked great on the surface, but after purchase, I discovered it hadn’t had any basic maintenance done — no fluid changes (brake, transmission, coolant), no air or cabin filter replacements, not even a cheap hybrid filter change ($10 cost, 2 minutes to replace). When I questioned this, I was told, “It’s not required for Ontario safety certification.” Technically true, but it’s a poor excuse for skipping essential upkeep. I contacted over 20 Toyota dealerships across the GTA, and all of them said they do these services on Ontario-certified cars, just not on "As-IS" sold ones, which is understandable. Clarington Toyota appears to be the only one cutting corners like this, hiding behind the bare minimum standards to maximize profits. Once you’ve signed, forget about getting help — they’ll just point to the safety cert and shrug off any concerns. To be fair, I should’ve asked for fluid/filter changes in writing before signing. I assumed it would be done because every other dealer I’ve dealt with in the past included it by default, even prior to putting up for sale. Lesson learned. In this case, car was masked with 10 other issues that I forgot to ask about it. At the end of the day, buying from a big-name dealer doesn’t mean better treatment — it’s all about the margins. And if you’re not financing or trading in a car, good luck negotiating on a high-demand model. You’ll just be stuck with whatever they give you, good luck with the rest. Go elsewhere if you want transparency, real prep work, and a dealer that actually stands behind their used vehicles. More

Two years ago we were at Whitby Toyota and were not impressed, leaving without a vehicle. We put if off for as long as we could after that and finally decided to try again at a different Toyota Dealer impressed, leaving without a vehicle. We put if off for as long as we could after that and finally decided to try again at a different Toyota Dealership. We ended up at Clarington Toyota and were so glad we did. We walked in and immediately started talking to Guy Jacob. He was very friendly, interested in our needs and very knowledgable about the cars. We have never felt so good buying a car. There was no pressure, there was some good negotiating and a fair deal was made. Guy was wonderful to work with and we recommend him all the way. Thank you Guy!! More
