I bought my 2006 Honda Odyssey brand new from Civic Motors in August 2006. At the time I agreed to buy the dealer rust proofing for the car (I found out after the fact that the dealer chose to subcontr Motors in August 2006. At the time I agreed to buy the dealer rust proofing for the car (I found out after the fact that the dealer chose to subcontract this to a 3rd party, Ziebart Uniglass). Regardless I took care of the car and I went for reapplication every year as stipulated in the contract they gave me. At the last inspection we found out that the car is rusting from inside out and on the driver door, on the inside at around the window level there is rust coming through the paint (turns out that all the people I know with Honda Odysseys have the exact same problem which points to a manufacturing flow in my opinion). Given that the car was marginally out of warranty (less than 1 month at time) and that we had the rust protection we bought from the dealer we went and asked them to honor the warranty and take care of the problem. We were sent to a Honda body shop who concluded that they need to replace the door and gave us a quote of $2700+ dollars. Instead of dealing with it the dealership indicated that this is not covered by the Honda warranty and the rust proofing they sold us is actually a third party so I should go deal with them. For the past month I've been sent from the dealer to Ziebart to another dealer to Honda Canada to another dealer and so on. I was sent around the town to visit the various dealers and shop with which they are affiliated and they all put on the indignation act and send you around in circles. I am given the run around and at the end of the day Honda expects me to pay $1800 out of my pocket to deal with what is a manufacturing defect that should be covered by both the manufacturer warranty and the dealer rust proofing. The rational of being given the door but not the labour has never been explained other that it is done out of the goodness of their hearts. I beg to differ on this opinion - Honda Canada and Civic Motors are not honoring their obligations and do not stand behind their products as far as I am concerned. Buyer beware - if you decide to spend the extra money for the dealer rust proofing it might be money thrown out the window (and it is not cheap). Civic Motors does not own to the problem as I came to discover. :( More
