Transaction went smoothly, but when the time of release they said they’re going to clean the truck but not even touch ever since I view it. Im not happy about that part. More

Hi Aron, Thank you for sharing your feedback. We understand that warranty related situations can be frustrating, and we would like to clarify our position. At CMP Automotive, all warranty work must be completed strictly in accordance with the manufacturer’s guidelines. In this case, no repairs were carried out beyond inspection of a leaking water pump. We explained in detail that during the replacement of the water pump if the timing belt showed signs of damage or contamination resulting from a water pump failure, it would be eligible for replacement under warranty. Since we did not do the replacement of the water pump we did not inspect the timing belt. Throughout the visit, our service advisor, technician, drive-through supervisor, shop foreman and service manager each took time to explain these guidelines to ensure transparency. Our team acted in accordance with manufacturer requirements and standard warranty procedures. Our intent is always to complete inspections and repairs properly, ethically, and in compliance with manufacturer standards. We regret that this experience did not meet expectations, but we stand by the assessment and decisions made. Amanda Dunn, Service Manager

Thanks for the response, but it still doesn’t address the actual concern. The timing belt drives the water pump, spinning roughly 600–3000 RPM. With a coolant leak at that location, where does it go? It doesn’t just disappear. Coolant is sticky, attracts dirt, and breaks down rubber and bearings over time, even if sealed. You’ve acknowledged contamination to one belt, which means the system has been exposed. From a mechanical standpoint, it’s not reasonable to assume it stopped there. The serpentine belt is less at risk, but the timing belt literally drives the water pump, and sits in a confined area where contamination can do real damage over time. I’m being told the timing belt would only be replaced if it shows visible swelling or cracking. I strongly disagree. Any contamination counts — even a small amount can compromise the belt, especially with 120,000 km until the next service interval. Waiting for obvious damage ignores the real risk of premature failure and puts the engine in jeopardy. This is classic consequential damage — a failed part creating potential issues in related components. On an interference engine, if the timing belt skips even one tooth, it’s a seized engine! The truck only has 45,000 km, and my remaining warranty will expire long before the timing belt is due. If the belt fails later, CMP will not be responsible. I’m being asked to accept known contamination and take on the risk and extra cost of addressing it later. That’s not reasonable. This isn’t about policy — it’s about whether this is being handled in a way that actually protects the customer. I stand by my decision not to proceed.
